It's illegal but as I see it it's not profitable for those organizations to go after the individual downloaders so it's unlikely you will ever get caught.
Start hating Sony, Phillips and all the other brands first But like usual the ones pushing these agenda's get out of the flack and the institutions that get abused get all of the hate
I though downloading anything for private use is legal in EU?
It's not legal but it's been "allowed" in the sense that it's not worth the effort of prosecution. If they do sue someone, it's for massive file sharing which falls under different laws which are much harsher.
In Belgium, since 3-4 years, we pay 20+% more for hard drives, USB sticks and DVDs to compensate for piracy. Since then I haven't held back since if they profit from everyone, they have no reason to expect us not to pirate.
