i still believe one ship concept is against X-series and logic... Imagine if u'd live in a vast and rich world and would drive big clumsy BUS or should i say big metal CAN all the time! Ofc u'd encounter lots of varieties of vehicles like jaguar, ferarri and vw hehe . U'd have all the money of the world and u couldn't buy that shiny car and drive it... Where is the point in that? Don't see any logic here... I guess Ego went the easy way... Make one ship, make available some attachments and that's it. Ofc it would be much harder to make hundreds of ships and make them all fully upgradeable (i think that's what the most players of X-series want - think, trade, fight and get better, bigger or smaller and faster ship, just to feel superiority of the exact situation in an open space - sometimes u need capital ship to deal with enemies and sometimes small one to kick anyone's butt) So i'm a bit sceptical about this one ship thing only.

Haven't really followed too closely but the first X game you only had one upgradable ship all the way through, seems they've just gone back to that model. As long as it's heavily customisable I don't really mind.

To me, I just hate the look of that ship. That is the only problem I have with this whole 1 ship vs. many issue.

Well, they could have gone the Independence War 2 way (a game with Newtonian physics btw).

ONE module attachable to a variety of ships. No need for tons of cockpits or command centers. Smile

For a while that's exactly what I was hoping for.

Indeed, same here.

It's a bit disappointing as it is now, due to being, IMO at least, obvious that it's some sort of dev. limitation. Too few resources for multiple ships? No idea, but it's a bit of a let down. Smile

Iwar was great. I still have trailer for it on hdd. The music Me Gusta

Now we got things like start derpizen where it takes millions to make a turret model in like 3 months. ...
I don't see how they are going to make a huge space game at this rate

This can be said for X: Rebirth too. It took em like forever to finish the game. Still SC will be developed and released faster than X:R Rolling Eyes

Still nearly 2 months away Sad
Really hope it turns out well with the simplifications. I never got into the previous games because they were pretty complicated. And i just want to play for some hours and have fun, and not have to play for some days to even see how things work Sad

Eh, the game wasn't really complicated. It just had a crappy UI and a slow time pace( at least for the trading aspects). If they actually simplify the game(instead of just improving the UI), it'll definitely make it worse, because the 'complexity' is pretty much all it had going for it.

i wouldn't call the UI crappy. It was just deep and there was like no explanation for it Smile Once you got into it, everything becamse kinda easy to access through hotkeys (and like everything was mapped). But that was x-3 in a nutshell Smile Hard to get into, hard to get out Smile

Mods really helped the UI in x3..

I started to like X3 during my third attempt, after I found some excellent mods (for the hud, speed multiplier, ships, x-tended and so on).

Looks like Ego have given massive thought to all the things that had that "rough" feel in the previous games, while not altering the gameplay too much, which is good. Razz

Though one aspect that needs to be improved is the stations imo, they seemed very empty and lifeless in the video, not exactly atmospheric.

Don't expect it to get better, ever. I mean there has to be a shit ton of stations in this game if the previous games are anything to go by. I doubt they would bother handcrafting and polishing every single station to be unique and interesting. Good thing is, mods can probably fix this problem.

Hehe true. The amount of work would be really enormous for something that is merely 'aesthetic'. Immersion and graphics are important factors of course, but as long as the quests are interesting and various enough, and the gameplay/interface refined, I can tolerate pretty much anything. =)

Nice vid! I can't wait. I kinda dislike that "in person" trader stuff because it will make the things slower but the rest is awesome!

You have to trade face to face now, wow well a mod could fix that easily I assume.

The cockpit seems very low res.

edit: ". I also miss the various camera angles and being able to see the whole scene: the cockpit takes up a chunk of view, and there are no external camera angles of any kind. "

omg lame...
