and yet blueyonder an unknown company does? NTL only sells 2mb at £30 because that's the price of the market at the time. Of course for now they're screwed at attracting new customers but it's not all lost.

Sublime: Blue Yonder, an unknown company? Ever hear of Telewest or Cable & Wireless? Same company. They are one of the largest cable suppliers in the country. Blue Yonder is just the name of their ISP division Smile

Cheers for the heads up, Jenni. 10MB sounds good to me providing there's no limit as I can easily get through 80GB a month in downloads. I heard they were giving us another upgrade but I didn't realise it would be so much. Last time we only got 50% increase.

Can you prove that they will be bringing in limits? As far as I am aware, Telewest and NTL merged months ago (I have friends that work there) and there have been no changes in service so I imagine it will only be on the high speed lines to conserve bandwidth. Even then, they will have a lot of pissed off customers (including me) as Telewest uses its unlimited service as its main selling point which is the reason I (and many others) chose their service in the first place.

Yes Subby. And Bkueblunder will knuckle under to NTL's demands. IE a cap.

Sublime: As I said, thay've already merged. My Telewest direct debit comes out of my bank account in the name of Cable and Wireless.

Jenni: you still haven't given me any evidence other than your own suspicions.

I have the Blueyonder 4Mb service, and i am looking forward to being upgraded to 10mb plus a 15 quid discount per month.

I am from Scotland and i dont think NTL are up here, forgive me if im wrong but it is mostly Telewest
and BT ADSL.

If they do put a cap on they will piss off alot of very good and loyal customers, depending on how much the cap is tho, im sure i could live with about 20GiG a day hehe.

Some truths

1. NTL is in debt and does have a 10mb line
2. Telewest are not in debt, they make a fortune.
3. NTL and Telewest wont be joining together.
4. They wont CAP, they (BY) have 50mb lines planned for July 2007 and 75/100mb by 2010.

Which is why they had to sort out a debt reduction plan.

In debt? Yeeeaaahhhhhh....... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4142178.stm

http://ir.telewest.co.uk/phoenix.zhtml?c=76808&p=irol-newsArticle&t=Regular&id=742232&

"The bandwidth upgrades planned for September will meet the requirements of most consumers and the applications and content currently available online. But plans are already in place to accommodate further speed increases beyond 10Mb next year, should the market dictate. And with the advent of DOCSIS 3 or ethernet to the home, cable services of up to 50Mbp/s could be possible in 2007."

Those articles you provided are a pretty damn old, how you came across them now I am unsure. If you check out there most recent quarterly reports I think you'lll find they are doing a hell of a lot better than same time last year Smile.

Example? Gross income:

Three Months Ended June 30, 2005
19 Million...

Three Months Ended June 30, 2004
Minus 126 Million...

Source: http://library.corporate-ir.net/library/76/768/76808/items/162388/EarningsReleaseQ2052.pdf

Go figure.

As for merging, yes it is ofcourse possible. It would mean more money for both parties, but as for Telewest sinking if they don't merge, not a chance. Me... I don't think they will merge, only time will tell.

Next time you should really look for up to date information or at least research first. Either that or don't reply to someone trying making them look like an idiot when you are obviously wrong.

yeah, but it prolly only applies to Japanese sites...they prolly get the usual 800kb-1mb off any non jap server/site....off the WWW, I get anywhere from between 700kb - 1mb, so i dont think there is much of a difference in the quality of service available

Midget, since when does a profit mean they're out of debt?

Oooh 19 million. Ohh that should just cover the interest on a debt of 3 billion.

Or rather not.

So you are saying that almost every company is in debt? Because in your view they are.

Show me a big company that isn't in debt and I will show you a very happy CEO Laughing .

Telewests Net Debt is £1,712 million, they went through a bad point, but they are doing well considering. Hell NTL was in more than 17 billion debt at one point.

I don't think you realise that the 19 million profit is infact... profit. That is after paying the scheduled loan payments ect, so the covering 3bn debt interest comment is stupid because yes it is being covered. Business loans arent like personal loans you know Rolling Eyes .

The company is making a profit, working towards paying off debts, same as every other company Confused .

No. Because it's simple. They had to go to the bank cap in hand and ask for a debt reduction plan.

Telewest said its debt-restructuring deal, which will give 98.5% of the company to creditors, should be completed by summer.

So in other words. They are in total debt.

But they are not in major debt now so what is your point?

So 98.5% belongs to creditors... Creditors are just shareholders from what I can gather. They put money into the company to own part of it... Like shareholders do (except I expect creditors buy more than a couple of shares lol Laughing ).

Notice it's called a debt reduction plan, and woohoo debt has been reduced Laughing . Telewest were not on the brink of going bankrupt, they just were hovering into the red zone and acted.

Look at BT, they are in over 7.8 BILLION debt.. (http://www.btplc.com/report/Report05/pdf/AnnualReport05.pdf)

The name of the game is Net Income, if you can keep that up you will be fine, debts or no debts.

Please link reliable sources to back up your claims which arent years old.

Jenni, phone up their services and ask about 50mb lines.

I run a shop, I am reseller of Telewest broadband, I hear the juicy gossip.

TW has been making profit since 9 months ago. Im sure the trend will continue for the next 3 months.

And as the local rep told me, there is no way they are merging with NTL. They wont be able to pay off their debts let alone their own (even if they are making profit)

So tell me, why have they been in talks for a while?
So tell me, why has Telewest appointed Deutsche Bank and Rothschild to advise on the possible merger?
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/24082005/325/telewest-ntl-deal-pushed-autumn-sources.html
Since when does making a profit mean no debts?

BTW, all the personnel sites are talking about possible job losses.

There may well be talks, but that doesnt mean a 100% merger

Why not have people deal with talks? Its common sense to get professionals involved.

They have had no debts from the last 9 months, it has been profit, they have A debt, but they are not in debt.

Job losses happen, its not a big thing.

If a merger was going through, why would Telewest be providing a 10mb service around the time?

Did you phone up to enquire about the 50mb line yet? Which makes you think why are their think-tanks mulling over the 50mb line in 2007 if they were going to merge also.

Your thoughts?

Well why not have a 50mb line?
It's a good selling point for both NTL and Telewest.

They may have a debt but are not in debt?

Tell me, why do you think Telewest culled their Blue Yonder gaming service?

Because they needed the cash elsewhere.

I never said 100% merger, but it is on the cards.

You see, NTL want to compete with BskyB. Since British Satellite broadcasting went belly up, no provider of cable services can even come close to Sky. As the CEO of NTL said, it's like fighting an 800 pound gorilla. With those companies merged, they will be a real threat to Sky.

The reason they culled their Gaming service was for the simple fact that nobody was subscribing to it (when I mean nobody I mean it wasnt a huge success, so why waste resources on it?)

The debt thing, its a business thing, if your recording debts for two years then you can consider yourself a sinking ship. You see companies prefer to go with monthly or quartly reports on current situation.

Every company has a debt, wether they make profit per month/quarter is another thing.

Right now, Telewest are more financial secure than NTL, they can see this and know they can continue to make profit. On the other hand why merge with NTL, when NTL is recording loses all the time, soon they will be ready for picking and Telewest if succesful can move into their areas.

If my business was successful and another wanting to take over (yes NTL actually wants to take over Telewest) and they are recording loses for months. I wouldnt give it to them. I personally wouldnt want to see my pride and joy ruined.

You're wrong with the first sentence for a start. The gaming was a huge success. But Telewest in the infinite wisdom still closed it. I know this for a fact. The guy that ran it I know and have known for years. Long before he joined Telewest from Wireplay.

Do you honestly think that Telewest will have a choice in the matter? After all the creditors own more than 98% of it.
