Today, Electronic Arts revealed that as of this fall, it will be the international publisher of the forthcoming Xbox version of Half-Life 2, which will now ship in October 2005. EA will also assume distribution duties on a new Game of the Year edition of Half-Life 2 for the PC, which will include Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source, as well as Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Half-Life: Source, in a single box
What have they been smoking?
Don't think it will affect the game, but partnership with EA...thats a joke imo
Read about it here----> http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/07/18/news_6129331.html |
ea is not valve's publishers. valve is the publisher, ea is only responsible of boxing and selling the copies in stores.
and btw the contract is only for half life 2 goty edition and consoles ports of half life 2, which means, not even for half life 2 aftermath probably.
valve is gonna found their own publishing and distributing company in the future, they have the money to do it and i don't think they'll miss this opportunity

maybe you can't read very good, so let me point this to you:
Quote: | EA will also assume distribution duties on a new Game of the Year edition of Half-Life 2 for the PC, which will include Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source, as well as Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Half-Life: Source, in a single box.
However, Valve will now officially self-publish all its PC products...
|
It doesn't affect upcoming Valve games. Valve still decides the release dates etc

But still, it's surprising that anyone wants EA involved at all, especially when Valve could manage theirselves as they have untill now.
Just surprising, thats all...

Yeah but they need a distributor. I like steam downloads of games myself but there are still many who want to have the box and cds....

for the pc market the deal is only for the rights to distribute the "half life 2 goty edition" retail box, which includes half life 2, counterstrike source, half life 2 deathmatch and Half life source.
it's gonna retail in autumn so i presume also the lost coast will be included in that edition.
for the pc market there isn't anything else ea can distribute in stores for now... i haven't understood exaclty if a stand alone version of counterstrike source is in the work btw... the press release is not clear on that

Won't HL2 look like ass on the xbox?
I think it's a bad move, especially when the xbox360 comes out a month later.
