I really enjoyed The Descendants as well but I fail to see how The Artist is hypstermatic.

Hugo 8/10

It was well worth all the visual Oscars it got, as it was a beauty to watch. It's a good movie just to sit down and watch on a dull day. Simple plot, good enough acting. Never the best movie of the year, but a decent one.

I just think its a very hipster movie ... I don't know how else to explain it.
Again, not bashing anyone, just for my taste it is a major pass.

I'm not sure how you are linking hipsters to The Artist.

In fact, I can't understand why anyone wouldn't love that film, it's such a delightful experience.

Then again, another year, another backlash against the film that wins big at the Oscars Rolling Eyes

Unless he meant the original jazz hipsters - but even then the only connection would be some of the music used in the movie.

there is a general term used in N. America .. basically that guy with skinny jeans and thick rimmed glasses that hates everything.

I guess maybe he's saying he thought it was pretentious (haven't seen it myself yet).

Immortals - 6/10 - weak script, bad acting at times (especially from the lead, casting fuckup imo) and the movie drags at some points. Visuals however were good, gods were depicted nicely (though a bit too dramatic) and the last 30 minutes were very good. If the whole movie would've been as good as the last 30 minutes, it would've been worth an 8.

The only actor I enjoyed in the whole thing was Mickey Rourke. Everyone else was below par . IMHO of course.

Hugo - 3/10

stupid shit children's film. I've not got a problem with kids films, loved Up etc, but the child actor was shit, there's minimal story, too many boring arty scenes, lots of shit obviously just there for the 3d - just generally disappointing and shit.

Children's film? Not sure what the fuck you talking about. For me, it was one of the most beautiful films of the last few years. Sure, children might like it because its colorful nature, but they wouldn't be able to understand any of it. (Seems like neither did you.)
It is a beautiful homage and thank-you to film creators and film lovers, just like The Artist. 10/10 from me. Smile

Let's agree to disagree. IMO its a kids film, and a boring one at that. I appreciate the homage to film, among other things, but I just didn't find the film/story entertaining.. Sad

What was exactly "kid's film"? Give me some points where the story was geared toward children, like say Muppets or Smurfs.

(Psst, Up is not a children's film either, and most of Pixar's films - there are complexities in these films that children just can't comprehend. That is the mastery of Pixar, they can create lovely films that the entire family would love - the children get the animation and colorful nature, while the grown-ups get a beautiful story.)

But anyway, you didn't like, and that's fine. Smile

Hugo is an arthouse film in a colorful shell. Perhaps this is why some might not like it. That is why it wasn't successful in the box office, because it was portrayed incorrectly in the trailers. It is also somewhat different than the book as well.

The Muppets

8/10

entertaining. had a smile on my face all the way through this feel good movie. nice songs, comedy. Jason Segel good. Amy Adams delightful as always.
but BUT it felt too rushed. like lets show this scene, now this and now this..without any buildup. so yeah.. some extra 15-20 minutes would have been great.

I thought it had w very weak plot, weak dialogues, annoying acting by everybody (esp. the two children overemphasizing everything). And the hommage fell out out of place, because all the rest was so weak. Sometimes visually very nice on the upside. But that's my only plus.

I would call it a family film : 12 years and up Smile More aimed to children I suppose, to teach them the art of cinema making in the old days.
