Didn't they fire Darabont? Or was Darabont not happy with the direction of the show and left?
Maybe thats why the quality has declined abit.
Drama and slow pacing ain't generally bad. I don't care much about action.
But the show needs more plotlines on the general zombie background, more survival and above all more science! The CDC episodes were Season 1's finest.

From what I know AMC wanted to make the show more cheaply (more indoor scenes, less zombies/special effects etc.), Darabont said something like "fuck off guys that's not Walking Dead" and then he left after some weeks. It's understandable..I wonder how (bad?) the next episodes will be

I would imagine Darabont felt like he had his hands tied with the budget cut...."We only have budget so we can have make-up for about one zombie every episode this season, fill the rest up with drama..."...I'd quit too I think?

Pretty pathetic that the budget could have been cut around Season2. This series almost immediately gets renewed for the next season due to its popularity so its like cutting off their "gift horse". MORE BUDGET PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this isnt some new trend.. make awesome high budget first season, get lots of praise from everyone. Make second season, cut down on the budget and quality because the show now have enough viewers anyways :/ Would make me really sad if S2 of Game of Thrones goes the same route as this series..

HBO have some serious monies compared to AMC, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Battle of the Blackwater might be the only thing they might have to cut corners in for S2 (they can't just conveniently skip it like the time Tyrion got bumped in the head and conveniently missed the fight that in the books he took part in Laughing).

No, episode 8 airs February 12th, 2012.

The break is to allow them to complete post production on the remaining episodes, and to lead directly into the premiere of Mad Men in March.

AMC Announces 16 Episode Order for The Walking Dead Season 3
Quote:
AMC announced today from the Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour in Pasadena, CA that the third season of The Walking Dead will consist of 16 episodes. Previous season orders were for 13 episodes. AMC's international broadcast partner FOX International Channels (FIC) will follow the 16 episode order and structure a similar schedule worldwide. Season 2 of the critically acclaimed global hit series continues to deliver the strongest telecasts for any drama in basic cable history against Adults 18-49, as well as, top international pay-TV ratings on Fox International Channels' (FIC) major markets. The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Glen Mazzara serves as the series' showrunner and executive producer. Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Frank Darabont are executive producers with Greg Nicotero as co-executive producer.

The Walking Dead has received rave reviews from countless critics, both domestic and international, who heralded the series as "above all else, The Walking Dead hasn't lost the most important ingredient in its strangely successful recipe: it's thrilling" (The Hollywood Reporter), "...with Dead's riveting cast of characters, the personal dynamics are almost as potent as the gory thrills" (Us Weekly), "The Walking Dead is a feast. Dig in." (The Guardian, UK), "It doesn't even take three minutes to realize that this series is setting standards" (Der Tagesspiegel, Germany).

The Walking Dead secured a 2010 Golden Globe® nomination for Best Television Series - Drama and won the 2011 Emmy® Award for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup. The series tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home.

The Walking Dead's second season returns with all-new episodes Sun., Feb. 13 at 9/8c on AMC.

I'll decide if it's good news or bad news just after having watched this season's second part Razz (especially the episodes not "followed" by Darabont).

But I must admit I don't feel not very optimistic on the future of the show (qualitatively speaking)

It looks like Jon Bernthal (who plays Shane) will be leaving the show soon (and his character supposed to die I guess) to star in a new show penned by Frank Darabont called L.A Noir.
