The one final remaining developer who cares about pc gamers and pc games....who made their pc-exclusive game from the ground up to be console-ready?

It's still coming to PC first. |
They explained the reason it will come later on consoles is because they decided to make the ports in-house and they don't have the required manpower to develop 3 versions at once. If they had, it would be multiplatform from day 1.

My point was simply that the supposed PC messiahs are just as much console sell-outs as any other dev. In some ways it's actually worse. At least with console games ported to PC you go in knowing you are going to get a gimped experience. It's a bit much when a PC title comes out with console ports off in the future and it's gimped from the get go.

They only care about money, as any developer does. And if they care about anything else, well, they go bankrupt.

wow yes lets attack a developer for making their game with console capabilities in mind....
biiiiggg difference between that and making the game FOR consoles with US getting the port. i dont care if theyre making a PC game that they then PORT TO CONSOLES...
caring about pc gamers doesnt mean not releasing their games on consoles u know. it means making the game FOR the pc, with pc gamers in mind. which they did.
ill retract my statement the second they start making games for consoles then porting to pc though.

I'm not bagging them for making a sound financial decision. I just find it laughable that everyone seems to put them up on a pedestal.
As far as ports go, I don't care if a PC game gets ported to consoles. What I don't like though is when the PC game is hamstrung from the start to make the port easy. That is building the game to suit the lowest common denominator, and is no different to what we get with any other multiplatform title with consoles as the lead dev platform. That might be a sound business strategy, which again I accept, but as a consumer it doesn't mean I have to like it.

The only thing I am worried about in The Witcher 2 is the combat. Judging by the videos it doesn't look great.

chiv that's not true.
What about BIS, Paradox, Stardock, 777 studios, etc.... and I'm not referring to indie developers. However I too agree, that these PC based developers and the indies must be supported.
I don't care that they even do console games, as long they don't port them to PC.
The problem is that there's always the temptation to do a game in PC thinking in consoles.
Even if this isn't a pure port can however introduce gameplay console mechanics that will degenerate the PC version.

Kinda my thoughts too. Doesn't seem to be that impressive. Ofc, it remains to be seen.
Another thing that I think will be the clear mark of console "adaptation" will be the smaller scale levels. Even Witcher 1 had some pretty big areas to explore. This doesn't seem to be the case with TW2...

not jumping was a gamebreaker?! IN AN RPG?! whut? were there so many sequences in the game you thought 'shit, if only i could jump up and down, this game wouldnt suck so much'?!
and as for combat, i thought the sword combat was fun. magic didnt flow into combat very well, but the sword fighting was heaps of fun... way more than pretty much every other fantasy based rpg out there.

It's still coming to PC first. And it's console-ready, because they plan to release it on console too, duh |
I don't blame them, that's where most of the money is.
As long as it's top notch on pc, who cares?

Actually i read (not 100% sure) that with the new engine the only loading sequences are going to be between Acts. So you are free to explore the whole relatively large area for each Act. But certain places won't be available until certain plot events.

IMO the combat was one of the better point of witcher 1. It was a nice change from the empty button mashing. You needed to have some timing and finess when fighting enemies.
Cant wait for this, installing witcher again and will try to finish it this time...

First, pillermann, fix your quote and be more careful who you quote next time.
Second, the first game never had large areas, actually the areas were really small, but the content from them made sure that's not bad.
Third, the whole jumping thing didn't fit in the Aurora Engine, so sorry mate, you're "angry" at the wrong things. That wasn't really the fault of the level design.
Forth, stop saying the combat sucked. It didn't. It was fucking awesome, period. Just because some didn't like a part of a game, doesn't automatically make that part bad. If you really feel the need to say for the hundredth time that, just say that you didn't like it. Also, combat was very fluid once you mastered it, yeah, even the magic. Here I hope that I can switch the signs from the number in the second game, like I did in the first game. I really don't want to use that slow motion radial crap every fucking time I want to choose a sign, a bomb or whatever it is that I want to choose.

The combat was literally hundreds of mini QTEs (something you guys rage about) between button mashing.

A QTE can be good if implented right. A game where QTE takes you trough the whole game is NOT good(ala COD for example).

I love RPG´s, but somehow i could not play more than like 2 hours of the witcher. Maybe it gets better after awhile? Usually RPG sucks you in the first moment... But in the other hand witcher 2 looks fucking nice.
