My game crashed only once so far on biggest map with 22 AIs, so thats ok. But I really wish the game would take advantage of multithreading when taking turns, but it doesn't. Only one core of my cpu fully utilized while taking turns.

So many years after dual cores were introduced and some devs are still fucking clueless how to use them. Fucking disgrace. Waiting for the next turn is basically my only technical grip with Civ5 right now.

played a world map with the germans, and was bad raped by everyone else. all the ai civ's declared war to me at the same time and there was no option for peace. (prince dif).
then i've played with russia, same prince dificulty, and i raped everyone and all civ's offered me peace by even give cities to me, besides luxury and gold per turn.
difference? with the germans i had 5 cities (two by my own, three captured), and never razed a city. i started to loose, and when i striked back, and recaptured my own München, i've got penaltys and unhappiness as it was another players's city (i've captured on the same turn)
with the russians i've had 7 cities of my own and razed a few ones that had captured and founded new ones. never got a problem with unhappiness nor gold. after a while, i have now 16 cities and i'm kickking ass in every aspect of the game, unmatched for the ai.
conclussion: size does matter and if you start with a civ that has less space to grow, it's a certain loose.

That depends on your science points (blue numbers in top left corner) which change from turn to turn depending on a number of different factors such as number of science buildings you have in your civ, great engineers, science tiles, etc.
Press F1 in game.

I'm having this exact issue around turn 318. Everything has been running fine up until now, and then something that happens during the opponents' turn crashes the game, and no amount of tweaking or reloading seems able to avoid it. Much like you, I have a distinct feeling that this would just repeat at some other random turn if I start a new game, so I'm stuck waiting for patches as well. Damn shame, as it's a lot of fun to play.

I had a good game on King mode at war with Japan for probably 300 turns. I only had swordsman fighting against advanced units like artillery. The stupid AI kept trying to cross some water and I was able to destroy everything with my frigates.
I still cant figure out how they were able to afford or produce the amount of units I killed so that gold exploit makes sense. Then the game suddenly ended at 500 turns so how are you guys getting to 2000 turns?
The other thing I cant figure out is how to maintain happiness. I just seems random. I'll have like 11 happy then 3 turns later it will be negative when nothing has changed or moved and im just hitting the next button.

Maybe you lost access to some luxury goods (a trade deal has ended for example).

Maybe your trade agreement for luxury resorce expired, or your terain uppgrade got destroyed? Or maybe just your population/city count increased.

Yep, should be one of these. Happiness is among the things in a game that are very transparent, just mouse over the global happiness icon for details.
Can't say the same about units gold maintenance, that is affected by every second unit build and is also influenced by inflation

For the 500+ turns, setup a game without time limit.
About the happiness, it's not random, unless you are experiencing some sort of bug.
Get some screenshots with your mouse over the happiness in your upper bar and see what changed between those turns that affected your population happiness. You might be getting population growth, or maybe you stopped getting a luxury resource, etc.

*cough*
ARGHLBARGHL!
Earth map, standard size, chieftain.
I start on the big continent with 6 of the other civilizations.
Playing as russia. Rushed horsemen and a great general and just pwned the whole continent.
The next 70 turns were spent trying to figure out where the other continent was.
Stupid England.
I've got Cossacks and she's still using warriors and longbowmen.
I'm debating wether I should just send a bunch of cossacks with a great general over or tech up to flight and bomb the living crap out of her

Happiness - population and goods I found it the only thing I could keep some kind of track. Production/unit maintenance are just too mystical to me. Huge map and marathon game built a new city as I raided some camps and got good money. Unit maintenance went from ~10 -> ~90. Game over.
AI doesn't pay for unit maintenance.
I just can be bothered with this game its just not the direction I hoped Civ would go.
*Sad panda*

your not suposed to build everything in every city because not every city will be able to support itself unless you micro manage workers and civilians

235 and Elizabeth got pwnd by 4 cossacks. I should probably switch to a higher difficulty
Anyways.
The last 30-40 turns were annoying as fuck. Why? It took me more time to wait for my next turn then the turn itself.
Game was a standard earth map.
Is it just my pc or does it get really really slow in higher turns?

On standard sized maps I got on average about 20 seconds of wait time between turns during modern era. In Civ 4 I got about the same delay.

What I do to make it manageable is play say a standard size map but reduce the number of civs from 8 to 5 or 6 and the number of city states from a ridiculous 16 or whatever it is to about 8. I really don't see a need for that many city states as they just add to end turn time.

On the other hand, I'm kind guy that prefers standard maps and normal speed.
It gets boring to micromanage huge number of cities on larger sizes. Not to mention units in Civ5, considering new combat mechanics.

Fair enough. I can only guess how painful civ4 must have been seeing as you had more units in that game.
