It's not unreasonable to think that the PS3 version does indeed look better than the 360 due to the game being developed for the PS3 first and then ported to the 360. We see it all the time when the roles are reversed and when it is the other way around there are plenty of posts all across the internet trying to rub PS3 fans faces in it.
That's why this is so funny. Now that the tables are turned it suddenly doesn't matter that one supposedly has better texturing, and a higher resolution... and on top of that it is all on one disc.
Face it folks, no matter which way you look at it, the PS3 version would be the version to buy if you had a choice.
I wouldn't buy a Final Fantasy game so even though I do have a PS3 I'll give it a whirl for free on the 360. If I were a fan of the series I would definetely go for the obvious choice and buy the better PS3 version of the game.
Sometimes the truth hurts.

I am increasingly concerned with feedback from FF13, when I read about the linearity I assumed we were talking about a typical amount but I am starting to believe it may be a major gamebreaker.
The ability to roam freely in a FF world is probably one of most important elements of the game along with story environments and combat, yet we read that due to the inherent nature of 'HD' its 'impossible' to create a free-roaming 3D world, yet I have seen just that in White Knight Chronicles, so which is it bad/lazy design or 'HD' is just too much work?

Quote: | I'm about 27 hours into the game now and it's still extremely linear - no choices and not a town or world map in sight. The battle system really is great but the rest is very disappointing. It's a bad sign when more than half way through the game I still don't feel like it's really started, at least as far as my expectations were concerned. Not nearly as good as Lost Odyssey in my opinion. |
27 hours into the game and no town?
THAT worries me.

totally off topic but is it only me or does it seem more and more like Spiderman has nothing else to do except come in about every mutli console or ps3 exclusive thread, talk trash, flame some people and overall just wank a lot? O.o

and then all "recognised" review and preview and playtest has said MW2 has a 10h Singleplayer campaign.... but when the game came you could finish it in 3h on easy and in 4h on hard
its really that short

Interesting that Demon Souls was mentioned - other than the novelty of that game it was 100% linear; no towns, no npc interaction, little story to speak of. . .just kill demons in each stage of the game, reach a locked point, and go kill demons in another stage of of another kingdom.
Final Fantasy has been linear for like ever. All they've done is strip out the world maps and any pretense to choice in the game. If the game is still fun and has interesting encounters like FFXII (which was the first FF to finally grow the fuck up) then I'm all over it.

Ell oh Ell. Well there's SE's target market then, those that enjoyed the fucking TRAVESTY of XII. FF only started getting linear with FFX, though even that had some exploration. Shit, even the god-awful XII had more freedom in it. Hey, if since FFX is "like for ever, like, derp!" then I guess we know certain ages now.
Everything since the Enix merger happened has been shite. Dumbed down, mass produced, shite. The last truly great FF title was X. Let's all just have a moment to mourn the passing of the decent Squaresoft RPG.
Still, as I've said multiple times, it's going to be a completely linear A-to-B story and I'm going to try and enjoy it as such. It's just a shame those with small attention spans seem to outnumber us now, and while we can expect more of this crap in the future; there is always emulation of the true classics! ^_^

Right, a target audience who - as another poster mentioned - aren't viewing the past through rose tinted glasses. As usual Sabin, you'll moan about the game, play it - so you can moan about it some more. No wonder you wish for SE to keep making the same game over and over, you're a love of redundant behavior.

yeah he is still raging his imaginative console war on the new levels |
Why did you falsify what Sabin wrote?
What he actually wrote was:
Quote: | Last time I mentioned the lack of towns and any real exploration, I got flamed and insulted. So yeah... good luck with that TB |
Is that what you have reduced yourself to?
It's sad, I mean really sad.
As for Sabin jumping in that's even sadder especially as I defended him during his meltdown.

lolwut? Jumping in? You're one of those whining at me earlier about my complaints of linearity, then you GO AND DO THE SAME DAMNED THING! I didn't "jump in", I replied to your whining.
Defended me? You STARTED the whole shit in the first place, then did a full 360 when you realised, shock and horror, that I was actually making a valid point! All I did was link to an article where SE outlined the reason they decided to forgo exploration on the scale of previous games, and all I got for it was a lot of fucking grief. Now you're making the same complaint and LO! I'm STILL getting grief!

No, you went on ranting about stuff that had nothing to do with linearity and that's why I wondered what you were on.

I ranted that SE's decision to limit the game was due to the graphics. And it is. And you even made THE SAME GOD FUCKING DAMNED POINT! Scroll up the page a little and see the very words YOU wrote!
Remember this? You should do, you wrote it half the way of this very page;
Quote: |

|
Now go back to Page 9 and read MY comment, in which I say exactly the same thing! What did I get for that comment? A fuckton of grief in which you FINALLY, after throwing shit at me yourself, say "Whoa... actually, let's just calm down here and stop ganging upon Sabin, because - and this hurts me to say - maybe he has a point?"
(paraphrased)
God, you people make me fucking sick. It's constant with all of you, you're entitled to your own opinion - but as soon as Sabin makes one, quick!! let's all insult and attack him! lulz!

As for 'starting it', I suggest you go back and re-read your own posts:
Here is where your mega rant started:

part of what made FF so great was the amazing linear story. Same with Half Life. Games can still be great + linear..

This.
If people are bitching and whining about "linearity" in a jRPG, then I recommend they should stick to PC-RPGs instead - like MMOs and other sprawling epics-that-never-end. jRPGs are about the story and the progression - and the linearity is good! ^_^

I came in much later and tried to inject a little common sense.
