|

Quote: | The basic problem is that while it's true that exercise burns calories and that you must burn calories to lose weight, exercise has another effect: it can stimulate hunger. That causes us to eat more, which in turn can negate the weight-loss benefits we just accrued. Exercise, in other words, isn't necessarily helping us lose weight. It may even be making it harder. |

A long read but it debunks a lot of health myths such as increasing muscle mass to increase metabolic rate.

Of course it makes you hungry. That's why you also need to watch what you eat. If you come home from the gym and stuff your face with sweets, burgers & ice cream you won't be losing weight. But exercise regulary then have a meal of grilled chicken, rice & veggies = success.

It's not just the energy that you use when exercise. It's also the promotion of muscle growth, increased metabolism, sweating etc. that come into play. Everything decreases your weight and burns calories & fat. Also eating powder proteins increases weightloss since they use more energy for digestion than they release once digested.
Or just do a lot of cocaine and speed. Works like a charm.

Quote: | According to calculations published in the journal Obesity Research by a Columbia University team in 2001, a pound of muscle burns approximately six calories a day in a resting body, compared with the two calories that a pound of fat burns. Which means that after you work out hard enough to convert, say, 10 lb. of fat to muscle — a major achievement — you would be able to eat only an extra 40 calories per day, about the amount in a teaspoon of butter, before beginning to gain weight. Good luck with that. |
That, among other things, is what the whole article is challenging. All these myths that we are fed by weight-loss gurus.

Just cut down on eating drastically so your body has to get its energy from your stored fat. Muscle tissue is only used at the very end (when you have an insufficient amount of fat) so you shouldnt be afraid of loosing that.
Doing it like this your body will go into "survival" mode and you have to resist the urges to eat cause your brain wants you to eat and stimulates you even more when there is food around

I'm kind of jealous about all the people that actualy have to watch what they're eating. My metabolism is so fucking powerfull I can eat whatthefuckever I want and not gain any weight at all. It's like all of the calories go into my penis.

Man I need a facepalm pic... I lost nearly 70 pounds with both exercise and proper dieting... And trust me it raised myh metabolism like for an instance: I was on a week long vacation where I drank and ate basically anything and afterwards I toke cannabis for two weeks where the munches gave in which caused me to also drink and eat basically anything. And what do you know I gained 3 pounds or so.

I workout on pretty much a daily basis. I don't build muscle mass like I see a lot of my other peers do in the military. Why? Because being able to lift insane amounts of weight does not equal to being fit. I run the 5k in under 21 minutes typically, and do 55/55 pushup's/situps. If i'm able to do that I call it a day. Weight lifting actually makes you fatter. What happens is that your body gets used to the larger muscle mass, and if you stop lifting weights all those extra calories and protein that used to go into making muscle goes straight into fat. It completely ruins a humans natural metabolism.

turn gain real muscle you need to eat alot of protein, and i mean alot more than your average person , your also eating alot more calories than your average person so that your body can actually make these muscles.
people stop working out and there muscles shrink rapidly , they carry on eating the same diet they are used to and obviously because the body no longer needs all the protein it becomex excess protein which the body breaks down and turns into fat.
WEIGHT LIFTING DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT, EATING MORE THAN YOUR BODY NEEDS MAKES YOU FAT.
you might aswell say walking makes you fat because if you walk long distances you need more calories and then when you stop walking these distances without altering your diet you become fat

Working out doesn't make you slim necessarily, that's true.
But that because you are changing your body. While working out, you lose fat, but gain muscles. Muscles weight more than fat, so you might actually gain weight. But it's "good" weight, because it's not fat.
So it's kind of hard to figure out if you lost weight while doing sports, because you might gain muscle mass.
