Piranha Bytes, the creators of Gothic and Risen, return to their origins with a new, classic RPG. Risen 3: Titan Lords pulls the player in to a handcrafted role-playing world full of rugged charm where every decision changes the course of the story. Risen 3: Titan Lords is set for release in August 2014 for the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system as well as Windows PC.
The key element of the cult Gothic series as well as Risen is the vivid world and the freedom to explore it. The world of Risen 3: Titan Lords will be diverse, authentic and full of life, providing the player with an authentic, classic RPG experience.
“Like a carpenter with a handcrafted piece of furniture, we put together the story, the characters and the landscape until it all fits and the player has the possibility to discover things all around the place. You can try out and find things that others might not. Exploration is the key to our game”, says Bjoern Pankratz, Project Lead at Piranha Bytes.
The world of Risen 3 is abandoned by all gods and suffers from the Titan Wars when a new threat rises from the soil. A young warrior is attacked from the shadows and deprived of his soul. He sets off to reclaim what is lost amidst the darkness that is spreading throughout the world. The banned Mages could be powerful allies on his quest. To get their help, he needs to find the Mage sanctuary on Taranis, also known as the Island of Thunder. Protected by the Guardians, the Mages search the mines of Taranis for crystals loaded with magic energy. Will the player join the Guardians to get in contact with the Mages? Or will he choose one of the other guilds in Risen 3 to reach his goals?

I wasn't a big fan of the first one, let's not talk about second one...so I can't say I'm waiting for this one.

When all else fails, bring the "titan" trope.

I read somewhere that PB is going back to the basics and their Gothic 2 days.
Could be good, no ?

Thats what they always say, then in the end: But the marked wants something else...
If the picture is any hint, then we'll at least have proper sword fighting (with proper swords).
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

It's unlikely, but it would be really cool since they would get to focus on one version and one version only instead of chasing an audience on the console market that doesn't really exist when it comes to their games.

There is no more "these devs", PB fell apart ages ago and many people from core team left the sinking ship.
Just FYI

Not true. This has been denied by Michael Rüve several times on the german World of Risen forums.. It's also kind of easy to verify you know, i searched for a few key members from Gothic 1, then i searched for Risen 2 using the same key members names, they were still there..

Dude, i frequent http://forum.worldofplayers.de (old habits) every day (all 3 forums: en, de and ru), I know the situation with PB.
But I still don't know why I keep coming back there. That is still a mystery to me, because I know there will be no old good Gothic anymore. And Risen 3 won't be even close to Risen 1, not even mentioning Gothics.

Then you would know that the actual big problem with PB is that they're just tired of making the same kind of games. As far as I (and others) understand is that they would like to try something in a different setting, something more SF maybe. Vurt is right, the original team is mostly still there, very few have actually left and yes anyone can just verify this. They don't hide it or something. What is gone from the team however, as I've said, is the spark, that spark that they had when they started. They also said they're not prepared to make a new Gothic, especially if they want to make it like the old ones, because they would only disappoint considering all the expectations. I for one still love them, there's obvious talent and passion in that company still, but nobody gives them enough freedom to do what they actually want. I want to see them get out of this shitty situation they're in and just rise up one day. People can bash Risen 2 all they want, overall I liked it more than the first one even though I haven't finished it. Even the combat system was actually good, they just took some weird decisions with it, meaning it hurt the game a lot in the beginning + throughout the entire game when it came to fighting non-humans.

Yeah it's pretty obvious they were tired with the theme, completely understandable. It was probably a good thing they went for the tropical / pirate setting for two games.. Bethesda has a good thing there, switching between Post Apocalyptic and Fantasy, PB needs to do something similar to keep it interesting (for themselves at least).

Risen was something they wanted to do on their own, it wasn't forced by any publisher, so please.
i don't recall hearing anything about SF, but I heard a lot about steampunk and they even mentioned Edge of Twilight at some point iirc.
