I have no idea where to put this, but I was wondering how big a difference a BD remux (~25GB) would show compared to a good 1080p rip (let's say 15GB) on a highend LED TV. I don't mind the download (fast enough), but I was wondering if it was worth the redownload (I have a couple of movies I store).
So is a BD remux worth the extra (at average) 10 gig download?

Proper encodes often go beyond the limit of the now aging Bluray standard, so the encodes are more efficient. There are differences, of course, but they are negligible and in motion unnoticeable. When comparing still to still, you can see missing details, blurring etc.

That's what I thought thanks. I'll just get the quality rips in the future too.

but it still adds a generation to it, i say if bandwidth isnt an issue , can only improve using remuxes and compare it yourself if the difference is worth another 10gb.

If you want to directly compare then you might be able to see a slight difference. If you don't compare them, you'll probably won't be able to tell it has degraded, if it's a good quality non-scene rip.

you make it sound like rips are better than the actual BR.
how many physical BRs do you own Leo? because I notice a difference in a quality...even in the best non-scene release I still will see some blocking in high detail/high motion scenes

Yes. Of course, there is still the step of encoding an encode, which is always a degradation of quality, even if slightest. But it is slight enough that people can enjoy the good 1080p rips.
@nouse I do not have optical drives. It is an outdated format which I do not wish to support.  But I do download remuxes occasionally. |
