Now THAT is a thing of beauty. I still have my FFVI boxed set with the map and all Very Happy Playing on a PAL machine is the wrong way to do it though, my man, unless your machine has been converted to run at NTSC/60, as the game will be running 17.5% slower than normal. Still... I'm suitably envious of the pure retro goodness oozing from that photo <3

Well actually I don't do anything half hearted, and I know about the issue with ntsc games on a pal console, which is why I shall be using the patched rom. No emulation though!

SD2Snes Deluxe, one out of 80 existing in the world.
The Final Fantasy VI, II, Zelda, Breath Of Fire 1&2 and others I only got for collecting purposes.

Okay, now seriously... fuck you and your magnificent device Crying or Very sad Those things are great, shame the price is so exorbitantly high at $190 each. I'd rather just pick up another Magicom and load from floppy grinhurt However! Even patching the ROM won't change the system output, it simply cannot output NTSC60 signal - no addon cart can do that either; the SD2SNES patches the ROM to get around region restrictions, preventing the infamous "black item/equip screen and oh look, there go my saves" issues ---- but the SNES hardware itself will still output at PAL50 and NTSC titles will run slower because of it. Some will even have game glitches/issues and, worse, some will even have the audio running 17.5% slower as well -- which is downright sacrilege on a SNES Very Happy

For the ultimate SNES mod I strongly recommend installing a 50/60 switch, which will complement your SD2SNES deliciously.

@Sabin I shall look into it, does not sound like it would be hard, much soldering required?

@sTo0z I hope so, we shall see Smile How long is the tutorial? I mean when does the game open op? allowing you to explore, I read that you get a ship.

Practically effortless to anyone with an iota of skill -- though of course, this is really only worth it if you're going to be putting any serious time into your SNES. I don't think it's worth doing for one game -- but if you plan on playing many then it might be worth looking into.

http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/snes5060.htm << Easiest. Lift and solder two pins, then solder a single wire and a resistor to another chip. Four solder points (not including soldering onto the switch) easy. This will give you a switch that disables the lockout chip and turns to 60Hz mode in one.

 Spoiler:

http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/snes-switches-1.htm << This is the recommended one, giving switches that enable/disable the lockout chip (some games won't boot if it's disabled) and also a 50/60Hz selector switch (some PAL titles don't like running in 60Hz, such as Star Wing) This one is recommended.

http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/snes-switchless-modchip/ << considered the ultimate mod but requires a lot more soldering and also a purchase of a new programmable CIC chip and a writer.

As for the game itself, it opens pretty much as soon as you leave the first town - probably not even an hour of gameplay - though don't forget to check the house right at the entrance to Narshe to get a feel for the game. You get the first airship when you reach the Opera House but that's a significant amount of time into the game and once you've finished in the Empire, you get the ship to keep and can explore the rest of the world.

You're welcome Smile If you go the SuperCIC route; someone is selling a preprogrammed SuperCIC chip for £4. The SuperCIC is mostly automated, it controls the 50/60Hz and lockout chips automatically depending on the gamepak inserted. All you'd need to do is buy and solder. Just remember what I said; it all depends on whether you think this will be worth it or not -- one or two games? Probably not worth it .. you'd be better served with emulation (bSNES is 99.9% SNES accurate)

Worth it? I already spent over 600$ on this stuff. 6 more isn't going to hold me back.

So... did you ever get the ultimate 50/60 SNES? Or did your SD2SNES somehow manage to not make FFVI slowdown on a PAL system? Smile
