Ah, the wonders of a catholic university Laughing

Now he's talking about transsexualism, and he says that

"without the body of a man, you cannot feel like a man. A woman cannot feel like a man if she doesn't have a beard, moustache. Same as a man cannot feel like a woman without breasts. You can't feel like a woman trapped in a man's body. Same as you can't feel like a bird without a beak, wings, or feathers. Transsexualism is wrong!"

And yeah, this douche is anti-abortion, anti-euthenasia, anti-homosexual, anti-contraception and doesn't believe in evolution. This is the first person I have ever met who doesn't believe in evolution. Tragic.

It's not even that he has these kind of beliefs, but he just doesn't see the other side at all. Abortion is wrong in ALL CASES. Euthanasia is wrong ALWAYS etc. What a fucking idiot.

Yeah, but how can you TEACH ETHICS and not see that things like transsexualism or abortion are in a very grey area? You cannot simply say if it's WRONG or RIGHT.

Though I probably shouldn't be surprised, this guy has a radio show in Radio Maryja, he very often appears in TV Trwam, and is an editor for Nasz Dziennik.

Mine is left winged and totally unreligious which would be quite awesome BUT, the previous idiot rector had the brilliant idea to evade taxes for several years, and now the whole university is totally debt-laden. People say the amount of debts is ~250 million euros. lol Italy Laughing Crying or Very sad

I never understood ethics courses (had one for a month) since almost all of the subject matter is extremely subjective and personal. How the hell can someone be a teacher in ethics? How does that work? Wouldn't it mean his ethical understanding is absolute and that yours, as a student, sucks?

Management engineering Razz (though I'm not sure it's the correct English equivalent since each university has its own features and unique offering of programs).

The titles of few of his publications (awkwardly translates by me Razz):

'New Imperialism. The so-called Sexual Education'
'The Age of Sexual Revolution'
'Euroquestions. The European Union and Human Rights.'
'Dispute about the Indissolubility of Marriage'
'Heterophobia. Homosexuality and the Greek Roots of Europe.' (<-- this one sounds really interesting Cool Face)

Seems like a hardcore catholic, very conservative individual to me. Oh, and he's even a doctor of philosophy. Avoid.

Probably by bringing up ethics throughout the history, how it's changed, how to define ethics, what "rules" apply to different schools of ethical writing etc...

Nope. We don't have any of that here. Basically this guy just rambles about how politicians in Poland are anticlerical and how disgusting it is that we have a transsexual member of parliament here and that it's morally wrong. Laughing

He even said that the ladies that work in in-vitro clinics are morally wrong, they just DON'T KNOW IT YET. Laughing Laughing

Yeah, I had ethics in my final year at university. Luckily I had the course friday 8.30AM. I usually managed to drop in straight from a nightly party. Get my slides or text that was handed out, sleep 1h during the lecture. Then at the break i used to run away, get a burger from burger seller on the other side of the street and go home to sleep.

Boy oh boy. Those ethics freaks are all a bunch of nutters. In my case it was a female and everything that went wrong in the world was because of 'testosteron in males'. Female circumcision?, aggressive and protective men. Global warming?, men buying cars. Animal cruelty? predatory behaviour of men. Laughing

I always wondered why smart people should have neutral points of view. I cannot imagine 1 math professor ever showing some political preference. But those ethic nuts who should have an open mind can take one side of an extreme spectrum, publicly ram it through your throat and they get away with it.

Typical Scholastic, Thomistic or Neo-Thomistic point of view. They really try hard to reinstate their medieval crap.

That would be the exact contrary to what you, as an ethics teacher, are supposed to do. When my students ask me what my position is, I rarely tell them, because I dont want to influence them with my opinions and viewpoints. (Some cases need answers though, but it's kind of delicate). In school we differenciate ethics from morals (which is kind of arbitrary but it works) and say that ethics is the reflexion on moral values and different ethical approaches. f.e.: teleological ethics (Aristotle), deontological ethics (Kant, Jonas), eudaimonistic, existentialist etc. etc. Also we try to teach them how to make an argument and how to understand or respect different opinions. I let them have their opinion, I just want them to argue it properly. It's difficult, as a teacher, to stay completely neutral, of course, but we try.
