I was running XBR and used this to upgrade to the latest Kinect dashboard. You'll still need to install dashlaunch 2.05 to get rid of the AP2.5 shit. I have my original nand and found this very easy to do and wanted to share for others who were weary of upgrading. I ignored the part about using flash 360 and I put the completed updflash.bin file in the root of my stick and booted my 360 via the eject button and it did the rest.

Code:
http://digiex.net/guides-reviews/console-guides/xbox-360-guides/7292-easily-update-your-jtagged-xbox-360-kernel-dashboard-12611-fbbuild-0-1-a.html

Here's their guide on installing dashlaunch 2.05 but i'm still confused on how it installs and what it does exactly:

Code:
http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/xbox-360-content/homebrew-jtag-content/7329-dash-launch-2-05-freeboot-12611-no-ap2-5-jtagged-xbox-360s.html

I haven't gotten around to doing this part yet but as soon as I do I will post more info. For anyone who is like me and preferred the old blade style dash better trust me when I say this is an improvement over the regular NXE dash. It is much more responsive and not as draggy as it has been in the past.

first off, you don't need dashlaunch 2.5 for playing AP2.5 games. never installed it and playing the new NFS just fine without it

second, just google for easy freeboot (preferably the updated one!) and get it + tutorial. nice little program, basically you just have to import your nand.bin, enter cpu key,hit a button and voila!, new updflash.bin ready for use with flash360. fucking idiot proof. it gives a keyvault mismatch message, but if you're sure you did everything correctly, you can just ignore it (which admittedly was quite a shitting-my-pants leap of faith Laughing )

third, i don't really see a problem with the kinect or nxe dash...the style is just a matter of taste and it's responsive enough for those times i don't actually spend in freeboot

i'm not going to argue with you about dash launch. all i know is i got the kinect dash installed last night before bed and it's still telling me unrecognizable disc. i use iso2god and copy everything over by usb with xexmenu. i ran out of time to trouble shoot any further. so far needing dash launch 2.5 is all i've come up with to fix the problem. i don't really understand what its for so i can't comment any further.

no need to knock the post. it's here to help and the info is correct (the part about the kinect dash is anyways Very Happy ). sure you can use easy freeboot but i didn't want to because of the key problem you talked about. last thing i wanted to have to do was open it back up and have to reconnect my lpt cable. there's a few extra steps involved in the site i followed above but the whole thing may have took me 5 mins to accomplish.

i haven't tried NFS yet. have you tried ACB? i'm not trying to debate the use of dash launch i just want my stuff to work like it's supposed to. just trying to get to the bottom of my issue.

can't say anything about AC:B with the new 12611 freeboot cause i played it with a modified default.xex on the old freeboot

anyway, since NFSHP has the same protection, it doesn't really matter since the issue und thus the solution remains the same

again, dashlaunch doesn't change anything here since it just does what the name says: it autostarts your FSD. only thing that should matter is your freeboot version.

have you tried playing it via FSD/xexmenu?
have you tried using a modified xex?
oh and one other thing just to be sure, don't wanna insult your intelligence in any way, but since i mayself was stupid enough to overlook it: does the game have the correct region for your box? cause this will give an "unrecognizable disc" error too Wink

Dashlaunch 2.05 fixed the unknown disc error for me on AC:B and NFS, so get dashlaunch. No need to replace any default.xex or anything, so this should really be the preferred method for future games.

Also, I just upgraded a friends jtag to 12611 very simply, just got FreeBOOT Toolbox Maker (http://www.bestpig.fr/news-20-freeboot-toolbox-004-maker-v26.html), patched the image with it and flashed it on the xbox again, easy as pie. Then installed the official microsoft 12611 dash to get avatars working again.

Dashlaunch is very easily installed, simply copy over the folder named "install", start the .xex within, let it complete and that's it.

This is just plain wrong. Dashlaunch does way more than autostart things, sure it's its main use, but it also does:

- ping limit patch for system link
- Console Region spoofing
- AP2.5 circumvention

So just install it, it sure won't hurt.

@bushie - i dunno i thought that freeboot removed region restrictions anyway? i'm hoping it does. i'm trying the global rf release of ACB, or the info says rf. abgx site lists it as pal. i guess if dash launch does region spoofing like xenthalon says it wont matter either way.

as for the gamertag getting corrupted, i read that here:
Code:
http://www.ixtreme.net/open-forum/ap-2-5-and-you-noobs-guide-t5793.html

i actually dont see the part that i read, maybe i misinterpreted it. i took it to mean that once you got that message it corrupted your profile where it wouldn't work on another console but maybe they meant you get flagged and then by signing into live and getting banned that you then become corrupted. fuck man it's hard to read and do other shit at the same time and still make complete sense of what you've read at times Razz i'll know for sure in another 20 - 30 mins. i'll be home by then.

thanks Xenthalon for clarifying what Dash Launch does. as long as i'm not forced to load a custom dash with it i'm happy.
