I previously posted the latest word from Ubisoft HQ as to the reasons behind DRM issues affeecting two of their new releases, yet it seems that Ubisoft were not completely (if at all) honest, here's what we know:

Quote:
Ubisoft DRM servers attacked again
Ubisoft has revealed that the problems with the company's newly implemented DRM solution for new PC titles are due to ongoing attacks from hackers and not as a result of high demand, as previously implied.

According to the latest Twitter updates the servers were under attack again yesterday, with some users experiencing trouble signing in. Ubisoft claim that 95 per cent of players remained unaffected and that login servers were fully re-established at 1am CET.

Ubisoft also claims that Assassin's Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 "are withstanding the efforts to crack them" and that "no valid cracked versions exist". Most torrent sites do contain links to both games, but Ubisoft claim these are incomplete versions.

The two games were released at retail on Friday March 5, with the first attacks occurring over the weekend. The DRM requires players to be permanently connected to an internet connection, even when playing offline, which has caused outrage amongst many users.

Ubisoft implemented the system following heavy piracy of their PC titles, most notably the original Assassin's Creed.

"At the moment, if you release the PC version, essentially what you're doing is letting people have a free version that they rip off instead of a purchased version. Piracy's basically killing PC," said Ubisoft Shanghai creative director Michael de Plater.

It relates to two actual games (Assassins Creed II & Silent Hunter 5) rather than gaming.

THAT is why I gave it its own thread, so it didn't affect game discussion, the same thread you just complained about me creating......

yes as i said, but its not really a thread worthy of being in the pc-""games"" part, its always been my thought here that this place is for discussing the actual game not a new fandangled protection system warranting its own thread in said forum..

Dunno to me it just seems out of place... Very Happy

p.s there are a few other threads ive noticed that could do with cleaning up and moving home as well really, like the mac one about steam... I guess the moderators are busy playing some of the new games Wink

Because that would have meant two different posts obviously, and this issue is huge news, it may affect drm implementation forever.

Ok, we could ask for it to be put in pc technical if you like?
It is a truism that you cannot please all the people all the time......or even some of the people any of the time.

Only partly.

We're not playing it.

but...

Many aren't buying the game, and of those that did there are plenty of complaints.

I doubt Ubisoft will scratch the whole thing though, they've invested far too much money and resources into this new system. It will be tweaked, changed and optimised but it'll stay in one form or another since it did succeed in keeping the current games (AC2 and SH5) uncracked.

yes they needed some large titles to test it out on, as using games that wont sell or be needed in large qty's wont get the server hammering they need to get it all tweaked Wink

its all part of theyre master plan dont you worry!!

Here you go again......

If you had taken a moment to actually read the OP you would have seen:

It was a completely different issue spread across different games and rather than sticking it a single thread felt it deserved it's own, stop with your constant bickering and try to contribute something positive for once.

It doesn't matter, they all have the same topic - Ubisoft DRM. We don't open new threads about each news. That's why we only have one topic per game and not 100 for each preview that releases new and completely different information.

Attempting to get a legitimate thread closed down I see.
You have to ask yourself why?
