Yeah, they could have just used Steam, but hey if they like wasting resources, OK.
I expect someone will have snagged whatever data is being sent between the service and the game, and will have it emulated or something a couple of months down the road.

I don't think you read close enough. Basically their plan is to not save anything other than the game on your computer. i.e. save games = their servers. No net, no saving. It's all tied to your ubisoft.com account. You don't have one; you don't play. That's their plan at least.

nope. the data is saved on servers. the game(the client) can't save on its own, it can only send data to the server.
Ofc you can always use ur own server, but its definately more troublesomer than cracking some cd protections

Dude, can you read ? He's talking about laptop + mobile/roaming net connection
Not everyone has constant net connection. Especially ppl who aren't forum residents like us, lol.

It all depends on how dedicated people are. I mean, look at (an old game, I know) Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst. That was one of these "cannot play in offline mode, must always connect, everything server-side" titles - and it was cracked effortlessly. Schthack is STILL running the PSOBB server as we speak.

It will be funny if their servers get DOS'ed and for a few hours noone can play, lol. Or if they do maintenance or have problems etc.
Then they'll use the standard retard OperationFailpoint2 excuse that everyone connected on launch day and they got overwhelmed. Lol, no kidding.

Ironically I bought Prince of Persia, HAWX and Endwar as they had no protection.
Got me back into buying and collecting games.
Now that pirates are going to be offering a better product and service ...

Another example is surely WoW - Tons of cracked servers to play on when I had a look at the game awhile back.
Broadly speaking, though, yeah - if you want to play their games without any hassle, go for a console version. :/

Aye, you could use MMO emulators as another example... I merely chose PSOBB because of the single-player component that required a net connection, whether you played online or not. MMOs, by their very nature, are internet based and obviously require net connections. It's this Ubi idea of making every SP title need it too, and that's just horrid.
