This is just nuts. They "warm" up with Liquid Nitrogen, and once they have the CPU at ~-200C they use Liquid Helium to get it down to -242C.

They broke the world record for 3DMark05 as well, 45474 3DMarks, and it's still the world record.

I wasn't impressed the first time and I'm not impressed now. Why didn't they do the test on 3DMark06? Razz

Same reason sites still use serious sam and unreal tournament 2004 and the source engine for benchmarks, make it seem SUPER FUCKING AWESOME

To remove the GPU from the benchmark since it's the CPU they're benching. By using '05 they're not limited to what the GPU can handle when we're talking about ridiculously high frequencies like that. Seriously, you guys didn't know this?

especially since they optimizing drivers for syntetic tests rather than actual games where gfx cards will be used mainly
it's all became who sells how many by winning xtra points, pathetic really, at the end it all goes down to bsod and ctd coz particular driver has issues with particular game, no points in some syntetic test will change that

omg my cpu pwnzors your cpu by 1 billion points
boo fkn hoo

p.s. i wonder if gta4 will run at max with this cpu or future must 10k years from now Razz

Defected? Rolling Eyes

In any case, it's not the 3dmark that is all that impressive, it's the overclock they managed to get with liquid nitrogen and helium. But I guess some people don't appreciate bleeding edge O/C'ing.

Oh we appreciate.. but it's hardly impressive when you consider the costs and methods. Liquid Helium is how much per gallon? That 40lb bottle they had was enough to cool the chip for thirty minutes? It's hardly a reproducable test or scenario.

Obviously not, and that's not the point. It's sort of like those cars in the salt flats etc. that take the speed record. Nobody in their right minds would do something like that, and could never afford to do it either, but it's still impressive. Wink

I guess. I'm just more impressed with results that anyone OTHER than science labs with multi-thousand dollar grants can achieve Very Happy
