Well my friend has a new Hybrid full size truck and its is amazing at how fuel efficient it is. I bet he gets double the gas mileage on the highway.
So by many of your reasoning, small vehicles should be the only hybrids? Sounds quite dumb and unrealistic to me.
Presently you cant stop people and manufacturers from making large vehicles right? So why not try and make them as fuel efficient as possible.
And what does supposed to be a hybrid mean? If its gas and electric, its a hybrid. No one is saying its a green vehicle, or a smart car are they.
Seem that the OP doesn't understand what a hybrid is or means, and is using this thread to attack Americans and show his lack of understanding of the human language.
Hybrid does not mean eco, or green. It means two technologies, used together to reduce....yes keyword is "reduce" fuel consumption .

Bigperm is right, although consider that while these vehicles are better than their conventional counterparts, there are still many, many, many, many, many people who drive vehicles far larger than they need.
