So i installed CPU-Z so i could check my CPU clock before i started to clock, and the Core speed jumps between 1350 mhz to 1800 mhz? And it says the multiplier is set to 6x, when it says 8x in the BIOS?
Its a E6750, btw

Any explanation for this Confused

Edit: Oh and i set power management in Vista to High Performance.

I don't know if vista powermanagement really turns it off.

CPU speed going up/down because of some "save power" bug in Vista perhaps?

is CPU-Z updated to read the information correct from that kind of CPU? Could need an update or so..

I just disabled EIST (Intel SpeedStep Technology) wich is supposed to downclock the CPU if the power isnt needed, but still it displays the 6x multiplier in Vista. The CPU-Z is v1.41, the latest one and supports all C2D´s. Ive also checked PC Wizard and RightMark CPU Clock. Same thing.

Okay, seems like i managed to fix the multiplier, its currently staying at 8x even in idle. But now the FSB mocks me Razz I set it to 350 in the BIOS, just to test (333 is standard) but it only shows as 225 in the benchmark apps, wich still results in 1.8 ghz.

CPU-Z wrongly reported the multiplier for me too, reporting the minimum multiplier. Everest ultimate edition reports the right values, go back in your changes then try that. Smile

I already tried Everest Ultimate. It reports CPU clock as 1800 mhz, FSB clock at 225 mhz.

Alright, disable in your bios (advanced bios features) both CPU enhanced Halt (C1E) and CPU EIST functions. Go back in your previous changes to default/auto settings, try your overclock over your benchmark tools then when it is set re-enable these two functions.

I just did that, disabled CPU Host Clock Control, wich was the default setting. Still getting 225 mhz...

Go in MB intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.), set CPU clock ratio to 8x and CPU host frequency to 333

Have you updated your motherboard bios? What is its version? The latest is F4 afair.
What do you mean by it didn't work, you put the values at 8x333Mhz and during the post it is still said 1.8 ghz?

Dunno mate Sad

i would try again to load default bios settings then...
- disable CPU enhanced Halt (C1E)
- disable CPU EIST
- set CPU clock ratio to 8x
- enable CPU host control
- set CPU host frequency at 333 Mhz
- disable C.I.A 2
- set system voltage control to auto

The E6750 will be displayed as "Intel Core2Duo E6750 @ 2.66ghz" in every apps, there you have its label and at its right the weird 1.80ghz down clock it is running at.

Can you post some pics of the relevant bios pages?

I haven´t tried reseting CMOS yet, but i tried this - loaded optimized settings in BIOS, and now its back to 1.35 ghz in idle, 6x mulitplier. And then i tried compressing a 180 mb folder, with compression set to Best, and then it maxes out (according to CPU-Z) at 1.8ghz with 8x mulitplier. FSB is still at 225.

I am glad that you have solved your problem, can be -very- frustrating to have a purchase which at a first time does not work as expected. Smile
