Hands down it's BF2 for me. I prefer the realistic weapons rather than the sci fi of BF2142.

2142, don't know why. Maybe because I played more on it than BF2.

BF2 here, I just don't like the futuristic setting in 2142.. And the fact that you have to gather points in order to unlock (basic and necessary) things like grenades or medkits.

Ya the unlock system didn't really appeal to me either...... BF2 still is popular too 1000+ active servers, sounds good.
Was just thinking. Wouldn't it be so cool if they did a next gen bf1942.. I remember spending hours and hours at lan centers when that first came out. But for now it looks like BF2 is the game for me.

i have to say , i hate BF2 for the solely reason is uber arcadish , guns are so inaccurate and you need to pump a whole magazine of bullets into someone for them to die .
i would suggest the mods like OPK and POE , that do alot better at realism , soon forgotten hope is out for us WW2 addicts . there is also project reality wich is more a simulator , i cant stand the mod , prob only one i ever uninstalled same day as i installed it , but it doesnt hurt to try and you might like it .
then there is DCON who failed to make a desert combat like mod for BF2 .

Wow thought I was the only one who did that. I dl'd project reality and uninstalled it 15 min later. Just finished the PoE dl, ill give that a try too..

glad to say also i am not the only one  they got a pretty hardcore fanbase which doesnt take no for an answer . anyhow
OPK will release a new version soon , i think 0.2 , has a small community playing it but very fun , kosovo war setting with german and serbian army , prob the best maps i have played ever in any battlefield series , very underrated mod , but i would play the very recent POE release till the new OPK is out .
there is also EOD ( the vietnam mod ) it was very good , as the weapons were right on the spot for good balanced realism , 0.1 was playing by hundreds , then a small patch was released cause all the noobs cried they got killed alot by snipers so they nerfed most weapons , now no one plays it  hope thats a lesson to all modders not to listen to the QQs only .

Is there some sort of site showing how many people are playing the different mods? some of those sound fun, but not if there isn't anyone playing ...

Hands down the best mod for BF2 IMHO.
(if you like realism, AKA NOT having to pump a mag into someone)
Plenty of people playing, great community.
