I have finally gotten to the moment when Zone Alarm with Antivirus bugged out and blocked a little too much for its own good... So I am now looking into some alternatives, what I like about zone alarm are the updates I get even though I am using the cracked version.

No matter, how does that work with Nod32? Does the cracked version pulls down updates and so on too? I can't afford the app right now anyway so buying it is not an option, plus I like try before buy.... Wink

Any experience with cracked versions of Nod32 would be helpful... Smile

Edit: oh ofcourse, any recommended firewall? If you have a good freeware alternative that would be great, but if they can't do what they're supposed to give me some names!
Please have in mind that I don't want a firewall that hides every IP existing and makes my games get lag, high ping whatever... I need Antivirus and a firewall thats good for gaming.

I got NOD32, and used ZoneAlarm before that Very Happy

The version i have automatically downloads updates Smile And they´re quite frequent, but small in size, so you never notice them, but the app is always up to date. And should there be a problem, you get a dialog box saying that Nod32 has problems connecting to the update server. This has only happened to me when my internet connection has fucked up, not by the program itself.

So, go get the damn app already! Very Happy

Not to be a requester here, but can I get a releasename or similar? So far my searches have turned up shit... Sad

Only finding some older versions and freesec's page is down so I can't get the latest from there.... Crying or Very sad

Edit: well I gotta be dumb or something... Looked a little closer and look what I found... Nod32 with a crack and everything needed... Razz

So now, on to firewall... I am not feeling that worried and thus I ask, is a firewall REALLY needed? If so please give me a good alternative...

Yeah, but lets say I also found an alternative source... Wink

And perhaps that *other* one might turn out to feel a little more trusted... Cool

_SiN_ roger that, perhaps I'll just skip it then and settle with XP2 firewall...

why not buy a cheap router and turn off all ports ? Why to bother with software firewalls whitch
1) eat up quite amounts of system resources
2) get bypassed very easily
3) are a mess to use ?

I use both Nod32 & Agnitum Firewall Outpost and it works flawless! Great combination.

Sitting here with Nod32 now and I am loving it...Very Happy
Thanks for the help and tips guys, much appreciated.

About firewalls and router then... I am thinking about getting a router now to set up a wireless network at home for my laptop and desktop PC, plus it'll be easier for others (that I allow) to use my wireless.
So any good tips about routers? Anyone saying D-Link will get my foot up their ass... Laughing

Well, I´d rather go with D-Link than Netgear, cause that´s what my family at home uses.. Problems and more problems Sad

I'll never get D-Link. Never ever and ever. I get calls daily from people who bought a D-Link router and had it installed yesterday with PPPoE and proper setup but it has failed and can no longer log in as intended. Netgear is a much better choice. Not that netgear is the best either but much better than anything named D-Link atleast!

About the Linksys, I was thinking about it... Too bad to hear that you can't get Linux on it longer... Sad

I'd go with ZyXEL.

They are a bit expensiver then "normal" routers but they are the closest thing to a pro router you can get. Loads of features.

Just pick one http://www.zyxel.com

Say what? Zyxel stuff for regular SOHO users is just as bad as the crap Netgear, Linksys and D-Link sells.

I said ZyXEL i the closest to a pro router not that it is a pro router and I meant it's features.

For example this one

Setting up a router or anything like that won't be a problem. I work for a swedish ISP as technical support and have been using computers my entire life so that won't be a problem.

Thanks for the tips! Very Happy
