Actually, I collect old games (not collectors edition) in physical form. So you are kind of wrong. I do however use stuff like Gamepass too - cos sometimes its nice to have access to other games.

I could say that i own shitloads of digital games - but we both know that buing games on steam/origin/uplay/epic and such...well..you don't really own them.

However, i do prefer more legal stuff nowadays rather than pirated software. I threw away thousends of cds/dvds some years ago with pirated shit Smile

edit: I dont mind if people use pirated stuff, but personally i do belive that if i can buy a pc for €4000-€5000 i should be able to buy my software too Razz (or "rent" in gamepass case. Ive only had gamepass a couple of months which includes 1 free month). And in some cases (well, many tbh) the developers deserve to get paid for their work. That said, there are quite alot of games that are overpriced and not holding up to their promises. Which reminds me, i really REALLY hope Hello Games have learned from their mistakes and don't turn Light no fire into another No Man's sky release fail.

Everyone here buys software / games because we get it, it's 'work'.

But Gaympass is different -> it's 100% renting.

Steam is not perfect (like the GoG system), but it's a lot better.

Yeah well, there is lots in life that is just renting. Cinema/Internet/appartments etc etc. I only use gamepass temporarily. Some games released on it are games that i intended to buy no matter what on other platforms. It's no big deal imo.

Even so, why mock it? Maybe someone doesn't care if they own the game?
People lease cars...alll the time. I don't see the logic, but I don't shit on them going "You are doing it wrong, and part of the problem. Just buy a car why pay for it if you don't even own it?!".

Like me, I admit I 100% DGAF if I own the game usually.
Or even if I own a physical copy. This one was always that way. I never kept any game boxes, or such. In trash soon as I opened them. CD/DVD went into a gaming sleeve because a stack of jewel cases are bulky. And if I could rip it and save it digitally locally? CD/DVD joined the boxes in the trash can.

And I rarely ever go back to old games once I grow bored of them. The fringe ones I know I will I find a way to buy. Otherwise like Grounded 2, right now we are playing? I'm never playing it again once I grow bored of it..why would I want to own it for more money?

Let people enjoy hobbies however they want.

It's interesting to see such a highly defensive attitude here.

Usually someone 100% certain of it's own actions doesn't give a fk, doesn't try to justify anything to anyone, doesn't try to convince others of it's own principles.

GPass is shaping up to create a precedent for a big problem in the modern world. You don't see it this way.

Let's leave it like that, eh, friends? Wink

What's "shitty" about it?

The first part of the reply is an objective valid observation, and the second is pointing out the different views we have on the matter and the encouragement to accept each other's views.

No amount of you hating it, makes it a big problem for me. If that precedent comes still not a problem for me, but is for you. (Opinions...on it)

Just like me not understanding people leasing cars, doesn't make it 'a' problem or a problem for you. It only makes it a problem for me..
So you can say we don't see precedent it might sight, so that's why we are OK with it now. When it's simply we do not care.

I'll consider you had a shitty day so far, pal...

There is no other reason for you insulting out of nothing people that aren't addressing you or are simply expressing the fact that Gamepass sucks.

Opinions can be debated, that's why we talk here...

I just told you that paying for games that you do not own is shite.

And you are trying to prove me 'wrong'. saying that living in a house that you do not own is not shite, like you would NOT CONSIDER NORMAL TO OWN or want to own that fucking house...

I'm not your pal, mate.

Nope, simply fed up by your constant whining at basically everything , it's not about gamepass and I couldn't care less it's been months and you use any chance in any thread to pour in your useless bullshit about 'ye olden days' 'corpo culture' 'woke' 'game update has broken Mods I installed on my own!! Crying or Very sad '

Weird ass fairytale world that you unlike everyone else 'owns' something, we all own something if we want to, but some games are not worth buying + owning if they are finished. And if you finish two games in the pass you've essentially saved money.

Do you hate saving money? Or do you love living in excess of stupid decisions? Laughing

This is exactly why I am calling you out, because I am sick of reading the same shite all year.

I didn't try to prove you wrong. I told you I don't care if the issue you foretell comes. There is a difference.
You pointed out an issue I agree that yes...that IS how things indeed are and work, and I said I don't share that same concern if it happens.

And there are people...that rent houses or apartments out of choice. what you on about? My friend Dade doesn't want to own a house. He likes renting an apartment (Can move when he wants, no maintenance money worries, no yard to have to fuck wirth etc)...It's alllllmost as if not everyone thinks like you.
Quote:

or...you don't want to own it. He doesn't want to own a house, I don't want to own games I play for a week or two, and then forget exist.

Bitch about me/us paying for passes, we still will. I dont wanna pay full price for games I'll play once. So works for me. Not sure what to tell you on that.

Gonna tell us stop paying for netflix, or hulu, or whatever too? Buy movies, you don't own them there...And to stop paying for Spotify, go buy physical media? Shit don't buy movie tickets, you are only paying for 2 hours of temporary early access to the physical media. Just buy the DVD when its out so you own it.

You fusing won't change how I spend, my, money. I'm an idiot for not owning it? Cool, I am an idiot then, with a spare $40 from a game I won't touch again.

"Dont want to own a game" is about the dumbest thing i've ever heard, but what else is to be expected from the resident chatbot. I think everyone would want to own every game, the price is what makes it not worth it.

I dont mind renting using gamepass, but not wanting to own Laughing gamepass is excluding dlc's etc so keep that in mind. On steam you can use creamapi etc to unlock dlc's.

Then you would be wrong about some people, in the 'everyone' assumption.
We are back to your broken: ALL people of [X] trait, thinks like [Y], on [Z].

I honestly, only care about owning games I know I will play for more than a month max. (Which is rare at 30-40+ hours a week of gaming for one to make it past that and I still not bored of it).

And I do not want to own every game. I turn down free games from friends, because I don't want to play it. Much less own tons of ones I never wanted to start with.
I even hide games I haven't played from my steam to get them off my list. If could totally remove them I would, they just clog my steam game list of 'shit I will never play again'.

Otherwise for those games, I truly, honestly, no sas do not care if I 'rent' it, or own it, or get access to it only as a subscription and lose it when I stop paying.
For DLC's if its a good enough game, I will buy it to keep it and get DLC,s otherwise don't care about future DLCs. As we already moved on if it wasn't worth buying to start with DLC's wont save it to us.

I don't collect games, I play them and move on, or really want it and buy it.
People 'rent' access to all kinds of entertainment. Why is it the dumbest thing you heard when it only applies the same here?

So It's the dumbest thing...to you. Not making you do it...
Same as leasing a car seems ridiculous to me. But only because its fuckloads of money, to give them the car back. You pay full price for the car, and STILL give it back...that's dumb to me.

Gamepass if fine. Most modern games aren't even worth finishing, let alone replaying, so realistically I really don't care about owning them. I mean fuck, even buying games, you don't really own them these days so fuck the whole industry.

The problem is that with more adoption Gamepass will eventually become worse and more expensive, so really not worth it. But till then? Abuse the fuck out of it.

Only games I buy these days are indies.

I got it for ~3€/month until end of 2026. For that money it's fine, but I would never pay 15€+ for it. Even 10 would be pushing it with all the stuff I could just pirate.

I dont keep it active, I sign up on and off. I dont keep gamepass or the MS one. Only when there is a new game we (we since 9 outta 10 games I play are with friends) want to waste some time on, and none of us feel like buying it.
So maybe 6 months out of a year I have one or the other, or both.

Or a game we like, but not enough to play on the regular, like Football, or Golf. We don't know SHIT about either, and now and then get the urge to "Wanna VS and see who wins by accident?"

As I said, collecting games was never my thing.
I never kept boxes, or jewel cases, or anything when I had physical games. Right in the bin with it when I got it. I didn't even keep games I grew tired of. I dunno how many spindles of actual game CD's (since I didn't keep boxes, I used old empty blank CD spindles to store them) that I tossed or gave away when I stop having a CD/DVD drive. I'm never playing them again, 90% of them I haven't touched in years. Why keep them?

Uhhhh nooooooooo.
'ing is the life for me, I can wait.
Still on pampas steam too, so if something really really interests me but has derpnuvo I can get it cheap OR wait for a sale and get it even cheaper (Atomfall, for example, is ~$23 right now, but if it came down to $10 I *might* buy it. probably not, though).
Also AAA is dead for me, mostly so no point in paying for gaymepass for those, and most AA indies don't have denuvo.

if u really dont want to yaaar, which i dont understand why, or dont know how, or just dont care, then gamepass is a good thing, plenty of games, a nice idea, but....

we already see the effects of it, like the netflix model, devs really dont make much money on it and in the future even see more lesser quality games. so still best to support the dev directly by buying the game

not having all the games on there means u either have to buy the rest or yaar.....if yaar then might aswell yaar them all

if u buy it just because there are denuvo games there then u shouldnt cuz there are already workarounds

so yeah...gamepass is good but depends, in the end u dont own anything, same goes from yarring so why pay?

the stupid increase in price for pc hardware alone not worth in buying anything if ur the type that plays many games, also the increase of unoptimised games that force u to buy the more expensive hardware just to play them at reasonable framerate...

Not to nitpick, but aren't these counter arguments?
- if u really dont want to yaaar, which i dont understand why,
- we already see the effects of it, like the netflix model, devs really dont make much money on it.

Maybe I am not reading it right. But it conveys "Yarr it only makes sense to, but if you won't, gamepass pays them very little and that's not right"

I don't yarr many games because MP is a PITA or just outright wont work. And I got friends and internet, why would I play a game SP offline like a caveman Razz

just stfu with ur long analyzing texts and read again

obviously u pay or get gp for mp, there are some workarounds for some but most dont work and not worth the trouble if u really like it

forgot the other aspect, the social media, when ur friends dont see u play the latest game but they see u play a non steam variant Laughing Laughing

shorter now but for how long?

its exactly wat u thought but for the younger people

dont know how long microsoft keeps the day 1 releases, we seen with doom dark ages they didnt showed any purchases data vs previous games, only installs

netflix too had some quality shows at release, then they went with more content but lesser quality, these recent microsoft games were leftovers before the buyout, how long until they make similar content like netflix? they dont need to sell copies, gp just needs new games
