It seems it's not possible anymore. I tried doing the "break a thread"-trick with those emojis but I can't complete the post, I just get "Error in posting". That means mrt or someone has blocked all unicode characters from being posted (and breaking the forum). I guess the other solution to that would be to add a filter to the database to delete all unicode characters.. but this way is simpler and gives you a message. You can still preview your message and see all the unicodes in the preview, you just can't post them.

(and now Leo's probably working on something equally sinister or worse... Razz )

It WOULD be nice if the forum could be updated to at least support the Win10 emoji list (winkey + .) but that would probably include the move to new modern forum software (don't mention discourse or disqus etc.)...

I don't mind an upgrade as long as it's got the feel and a similar layout and style to the current phpBB 2.x hump. The color scheme, the layout, the menus, everything.. I'm so used to ze hump in this way that it'd probably get too weird if it was replaced with something modern that looked entirely different and die off. I guess I'm just an old bastard who can't handle change (at least not when it comes to my beloved ze hump, the only forum I visit on a near daily basis since.... well, 1970 I guess (I can't remember when I first started lurking here, when I created my account... I can only see my first still existing post from back in 2005 and I'm fairly sure I made posts before that but they've disappeared for some reason.. I have some vague memories of some database failures at times but my memory may betray me...

My first currently existing post: https://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=242973#242973 and I'm happy to see it was me trying to be helpful and not a prick. Wink

It seems that only a very small subset of emoji's work. Anchor and Boat are from Emoji 1.0, Unicode 4.1 but a lot of the others don't work ("Error in posting"). I tried adding Bento box, also part of Emoji 1.0 but from Unicode v6.0. Can't add Starry Eye emoji from Unicode 10.0 either. So I guess you're right, emojis that are part of Unicode v6.0 and upwards are just "nope".

Unicode 5.2 (last version before Unicode v6.0) test, these works:

⛷️ Skier
Person Bouncing Ball
⛰️ Mountain
Church
⛩️ Shinto Shrine
Fountain
Tent
Fuel Pump
Sailboat
⛴️ Ferry
Sun Behind Cloud
⛈️ Cloud with Lightning and Rain
⛱️ Umbrella on Ground
Snowman Without Snow
Soccer Ball
Baseball
Flag in Hole
⛸️ Ice Skate
⛑️ Rescue Worker’s Helmet
⛏️ Pick
⛓️ Chains
No Entry
Exclamation Mark
Hollow Red Circle

The next three in the list does NOT work:

Continuing (and these have no emojis, they're just Unicode characters):

White Flag with Horizontal Middle Black Stripe
Left Closed Entry
White Two-Way Left Way Traffic
Heavy Circle with Stroke and Two Dots Above
White Diamond In Square
Squared Saltire
Black Truck
Car Sliding
Disabled Car
Square Four Corners
Map Symbol for Lighthouse
Crossing Lanes
Historic Site
Black Two-Way Left Way Traffic
Black Left Lane Merge
Castle
Turned Black Shogi Piece
White Left Lane Merge
Japanese Bank Symbol
Gear Without Hub
Falling Diagonal In White Circle In Black Square
Headstone Graveyard Symbol
Restricted Left Entry-2
Restricted Left Entry-1
Three Lines Converging Left
Cup On Black Square
Drive Slow Sign
Rain
Alternate One-Way Left Way Traffic
Squared Key
Turned White Shogi Piece
Circled Crossing Lanes
Black Snowman
Heavy White Down-Pointing Triangle
Gear with Handles
Black Cross On Shield
️⚞ Three Lines Converging Right

So three emojis are not working... lol, why those three specifically!?

ASCII is fun as well.

Still, doesn't seem possible to break forum/threads with unicode abuse anymore. Smile

Are you meaning generally or are you referring to your script?

Emojis that are part of Unicode up to 5.2 (minus 3 particular emojis) still work (I've only checked out Unicode v5.2 emojis though).

Ahh I see. My script simply replaces any emoji with an image link, so that of course still works. I was hoping they fixed the entire UTF8 sequence issue so that all emojis work.
