Embrace your free public transport that you hate!
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Never was in an accident while driving for the past 20+ YRS. I buy cars that dont have fancy stuff like heated seats..so dont have to worry about repairs on stuff I don't need. Few scratches I dont care about. Just get me to point a and b. My 2002 Prizm has 162K miles and still going strong. All original parts (including muffer!!)..Just brakes and tires..

bike2work mate.
on a serious note, I know the feeling, working in the car industry, close to repair shop, I can sometimes feel the pain. And it's not even the thought of a dented bumper, it's the time needed for paperwork and then for repairs....and the OCD thought of replaceable things that won't fit as factory ones, or couleurs

That sucks :<
I'm using an alternative approach when it comes to this recurring problem (since Italian streets are like extended dodgems), by rolling with a car from 1999 that has such a huge collection of bumps and scratches that they're now part of its aesthetics, reaching the point where I genuinely don't even care anymore.

Ah, nice one, ixi
When I visitd Italy quite recently the perfectionist in me had multiple heart attacks when I saw you you guys park. Or rather how you mash cars inbetween each other
@flipp Italians have taken the driving experience to a whole new level. It's a bit like a taste of India or something like that in Europe. Turn indicator is optional and unneeded accessory - even on freaking Autostrada, cutting off is a norm, there is no certain system for following speed limits etc
And couple it with streets made for bicycles, it's truly a thing to experience. I got used to it by third day and I've driven with relative ease among local idiots back in Estonia
Now that I have cooled off a bit, it looks actually as if something bigger, like a SUV or even garbage truck might be the culprit, since I've got paint on my headlight, which is sunken into the bumper by design, yet the bumper etc is in one piece, just heavily scratched. I haven't had the headlight checked yet though.
Guess I'll have to call the service again and ask for a Platinum membership

@difm & flipp: exactly
And the more you head to the south, the worse it gets in terms of feeling overwhelmed by the wild and threatening entity that is the Italian roads' ecosystem. Where complete randomness reigns, yet supervised by a mechanical selection, and every moment on the street is lived like the last lap of a Formula 1 grand prix xD
