I just have to vent some, sorry

I'va had my car for a bit more than 2,5 years. During the first year, someone scratched my door.
Next autumn I read-ended another car (only time I have caused something myself).
Last October an idiot reversed into me while we were waiting behind a traffic light. Got it fixed and the service bodyworks guy and I joked that we have to meet each year to continue the pattern.
Then in the winter my seat heating and mirror folder failed. Those went under the warranty, but still.
And NOW some idiot hit and run my car during the weekend. Nothing major but still visible damage to the front bumper and some paint on one headlight but since it's a leased car and the whole front of the car is in one piece I have to go to the service again. It's sad that I only now noticed it due to the car being unwased and the white paint looked just like bird poop Sad

Sometimes I wonder if some higher power is telling me to embrace our free public transport which I hate Sad

Oh I will. Luckily, everything has been mainly cosmetical damage.
The car itself runs perfectly fine, it's keeping together etc.

Only thing I am amazed about is how much simple things cost to fix due to cars getting softer for safety reasons. I'm keeping the list of all the major repairs and they are given with cost numbers Very Happy
For example - when the dude reversed into me (btw, he had zero damage thanks to the hook he had), I had a crumpled license plate and a big fist-sized dent. We laughed both that it's just minor damage and easy to fix. Well, turns out it cost his insurance a nice 1400€ Amazing! Surprised

Embrace your free public transport that you hate!

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Yeah, cars use tons of plastics and other crap that is a mess to replace. Especially bumpers are a bitch - replacing the crappy plastic bumpers is a chore and they often don't fit perfectly either.

Never was in an accident while driving for the past 20+ YRS. I buy cars that dont have fancy stuff like heated seats..so dont have to worry about repairs on stuff I don't need. Few scratches I dont care about. Just get me to point a and b. My 2002 Prizm has 162K miles and still going strong. All original parts (including muffer!!)..Just brakes and tires..

bike2work mate.

on a serious note, I know the feeling, working in the car industry, close to repair shop, I can sometimes feel the pain. And it's not even the thought of a dented bumper, it's the time needed for paperwork and then for repairs....and the OCD thought of replaceable things that won't fit as factory ones, or couleurs Sad

That sucks :<
I'm using an alternative approach when it comes to this recurring problem (since Italian streets are like extended dodgems), by rolling with a car from 1999 that has such a huge collection of bumps and scratches that they're now part of its aesthetics, reaching the point where I genuinely don't even care anymore. Ah, nice one, ixi Very Happy

When I visitd Italy quite recently the perfectionist in me had multiple heart attacks when I saw you you guys park. Or rather how you mash cars inbetween each other Very Happy
@flipp Italians have taken the driving experience to a whole new level. It's a bit like a taste of India or something like that in Europe. Turn indicator is optional and unneeded accessory - even on freaking Autostrada, cutting off is a norm, there is no certain system for following speed limits etc Very Happy
And couple it with streets made for bicycles, it's truly a thing to experience. I got used to it by third day and I've driven with relative ease among local idiots back in Estonia Very Happy

Now that I have cooled off a bit, it looks actually as if something bigger, like a SUV or even garbage truck might be the culprit, since I've got paint on my headlight, which is sunken into the bumper by design, yet the bumper etc is in one piece, just heavily scratched. I haven't had the headlight checked yet though.
Guess I'll have to call the service again and ask for a Platinum membership Very Happy

@difm & flipp: exactly Very Happy

And the more you head to the south, the worse it gets in terms of feeling overwhelmed by the wild and threatening entity that is the Italian roads' ecosystem. Where complete randomness reigns, yet supervised by a mechanical selection, and every moment on the street is lived like the last lap of a Formula 1 grand prix xD
