So i installed a h80i and my temperature just kept on rising pretty quickly. I googled and fount out it might be a faulty pump. I concluded with this and put my evo 212 back on. Later on i found out i might have used the cpu_opt instead of the normal one Laughing Not 100% certain, but if i am to rma it, i should be certain. What significance would it make using opt instead of the regular for such a cooler? If anything, can i quickly plug it in without actually installing it to be sure it's faulty or not?

The SATA plug powers the pump so you will need it connected. The 3-pin connector coming out from the H80i is the RPM wire so your BIOS won't give you an error about no fan plugged in to the CPU_FAN port.

Check the threads for the screws on the radiator and see if they are stripped.

Unless I'm completely miss-understanding the fan wire is then just there to report a RPM value to the motherboard bios to avoid the boot error with no CPU fan connected?

The sata was plugged in correctly, so that means the pump probably wasn't pumping. Faulty device.

A pump that won't pump is probably faulty yes. Just like a hooker who won't hook is faulty.

re-test it, you can plug it in without installing it to the CPU, use this time the CPU_FAN header. Check from bios what kind of RPM it says.

Definitely plugged it in the correct one now Laughing "Cpu fan error" Fans which said around 700 rpm with my evo 212 said N/A when i plugged in the h80i. Difference now was that the temperature didn't rise like a motherfucker, but i had the evo 212 on the cpu. Probably faulty.
