Unless I'm completely miss-understanding the fan wire is then just there to report a RPM value to the motherboard bios to avoid the boot error with no CPU fan connected?

The sata was plugged in correctly, so that means the pump probably wasn't pumping. Faulty device.

A pump that won't pump is probably faulty yes. Just like a hooker who won't hook is faulty.

re-test it, you can plug it in without installing it to the CPU, use this time the CPU_FAN header. Check from bios what kind of RPM it says.

Well, called the support where i bought it and getting a h80i v2 shipped. They said i could just throw my old one away, pretty sweet!
