It seems like we have had a few of these threads this year already...
My 16 year old cat died yesterday, and it fucking sucks. She was sick about a month ago, and we quickly got her on medication that helped for a few weeks. Sadly this last week she took and turn for the worse and finally passed yesterday.... peacufuly, at home.
My wife is taking it especially hard, she has been crying non stop, and it so hard for me to see her like this. It's breaking my heart, I don't know what to say to her to make her feel better. I am terribly sad as well, but I have a different way of grieving than her.
She has been crying non stop ever since our cat passed, I am trying to comfort her, but I feel so lost.
Going to miss my little buddy

I know how you feel bud, the first days are terrible. There's nothing that can soothe the grief. It gets better though with time, stay strong guys.

I'd lost 3 cats, and after that my mom said she can't do it anymore :\ Loosing a pet that has been so long with you is just as loosing a family member. Sorry for your loss

You don't get it.
People can spend years mourning their pet, of course the strongest emotions and constant crying only occurs for a few days or weeks, but the mourning continues. You look at where she would lie most oftenly and when she isn't there, you realize once again she's gone, and it fucking hurts. You find hair strands from her fur, and get memory flashes from stupid shit she did, like eating a whole plant and then throwing it up and looking at you as if nothing just happened, or botching a jump and landing upside down paddling with her legs, or playing, or remembering the sound of her meow.
There are claw marks on some of our wallpaper from our Maja, and man roughly half a year after it still fucking stings when they catch my attention. The bonds you forge with a cat or a dog of course is relative, some people don't really care for or about their pets, they treat them like they would a piece of furniture. But then to some, they are much more. They are friends and family, and the mourning process is similar emotionally to losing any friend or family.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

There is so much around our house that keeps reminding her of the cat, and she just breaks down each time she sees something. I know it will take time, and I need to be patient and let her grieve.
She doesn't seem to be blaming herself, the cat just died of old age, nothing we could have done, just hard to lose her.
Once again, thank you for all the nice comments and insight guys |
I moved all Maja's stuff into one box that I keep along with her ashes in her favourite sleeping spot (a closet), it's become a bit of an altar. Might want to consider doing something similar so it doesn't hit her as often, but still have the option to remember, because the sorrow eventually turns into good memories and laughter too.
Yes, yes I'm back.

I am sorry for your loss, lost a couple of cats myself.
Of course we all say our pets had 'unique personalities' and they were special, if you get a new cat it will feel the same way in a year, they are kinda like people each pet has a character of it's own.

Sorry to hear that. Really sad when our little buddies passes away.
I cried like a little bitch when I left my ex gf not because of her, but because she would leave with the cat and damn I loved that cat!

Thanks for all the kind words, we are both doing much better, but still get sad when we something that reminds us of her.
Probably going to be a long time before we have another pet, I would love to have a German Shepard at some point.

That is a mistake. no matter how harsh it seems, get a new pet right away. they are like prozac, they will help you cope much better than being without one.
