I like my Winrar!

Same thing Very Happy Honestly, for what I ask of it (aka just unpacking stuff), WinRAR is pretty much perfect.

no windows user, but i would strongly advise this: https://www.7-zip.org/

come back and let me know the advantage of using some shitty cracked winrar

Here are some advantages of WinRAR compared to 7zip:

1. Can open and process tar+gz and similar compressed tars directly instead of unpacking tar to temp dir and then opening it.
2. Can handle multivolume archive on several removable drives directly instead of requiring all parts to be copied into the same folder first.

Not much in general, but I find it useful on almost daily basis.

I don't know about this if it would or would not be possible with 7zip, it is a workflow I am never dealing with. But I do know the advantages of 7zip outweigh heavily winrar:

- compresses faster
- compression is better and ends up in lower sizes
- free open source software, without the need to use some dodgy cracks to get rid of nag screens
- supports unpacking of all proprietary formats

I do agree winrar's icon has more colors and has fancy customizable icon themes Very Happy

Well I paid the licence years ago so no cracks for me Very Happy

But yeah, 7zip is lately lightning fast on 7z format due to assembly level optimizations introduced in 18.xx at some point.

Download Volume2, then you'll have logarithmic volume control in entire Windows Smile It also allows you to set 100 volume steps again instead of Windows 10's 50.

Well, WinRAR is faster than 7zip here, output size is almost the same for me (negligible), there's a rarkey generator so no need to patch anything. Unpacking does WinRAR as well, but 7zip doesn't create rars. 7zip also has a terrible UI. No, thanks, I'll keep WinRAR Smile

So, were Winamp to Winrar now?

Makes sense, both begin with a 'W'.

Winamp 5.666 (updated) still works perfectly here (at home) and there (cocktail bar where I'm the manager), both with latest Windows 10 Pro. Also, if you need a really updated Winamp alternative, with bells & tinkles, try WACUP https://getwacup.com
