Oh! And I actually *liked* that the developers decided to remove the choice/consequence system that was initially shown off. Normally removing stuff as integral as this would be outrageous but the decision to have a set character for Deacon really fits much better in the gameworld, rather than having a Deacon that flipflops from being Saint Gerard to Fallen Lucifer Laughing

I enjoyed the progression in the game, a lot. It was damn hard at first and some areas were a no go. I remember one camp up high on a hill where there was a horde below hiding in a cave. That one kicked my arse for a while.
And the first time with that horde in Chemlut Shocked

But in the end when i had completed it, I just run and gunned all of the hordes in one go Very Happy

Yeah, there's been a metric shitton of patches released Very Happy The most I've ever seen on a PS4 title to be honest, haha! And yes... a lot of areas really kicked my arse at the start, which makes near the end feel so much more rewarding!

http://thisgengaming.com/2020/01/28/days-gone-1-61-patch-massively-reduces-the-file-size-of-the-game-read-the-full-patch-notes/

Quote:
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bend Studio have released the 1.61 patch for their open world zombie game Days Gone and it features a massive reduction to the file size of the game among other fixes.

Now the patch itself is a big one clocking in at around 30GB but the good thing is you’ll end up saving a lot of space once you get it downloaded. Before the patch the game was taking up around 61GB of space on my PlayStation 4. After the patch the game is only taking up 38.71GB of space so that’s over 20GB of space that this patch freed up.

Download 30GB patch to reduce install by 20GB.

May the NFOrce be with you always.

Any tips on how to enjoy the game? Especially early on..

I'm 6 hours in and considering stop playing, between being stuck without gas and having to walk and stamina is very low and takes about 5 secs just to start recovering stamina, and melee weapons breaking.. well I'm just not having fun. Also combat doesn't fell so good, sadly i fell disappointed Sad i had high hopes for Days Gone.

I think I'm going to give it another try but not seeing big changes ahead.

Fill up at the gas stations and plan ahead. I completed the game without ever running out of fuel. You can upgrade to bigger fuel tanks. But also remember you can find cans a lot of places and they are visible on the map. I can see how the game feels like a struggle at 6 hours, but later on you will have an AMAZING feeling after taking out your first horde! Very Happy

This game seems to float between great and pretty shit judging by user reviews Some call it captivating with a great story, others think it's a cheap rip-off of much better games and it has shit story/characters.
If I really like(d) games like HZD and Death Stranding, will I like this one? It seems you need several hours to get going, I sadly don't have that time to waste on a game that's not for me.

I don't understand those who say you need several hours to get going.. its not accurate at all.
It has some good things going for it but characters and story wise, no. It's like its written by a teenager. I don't care too much though, i don't play games for story and the absolute cringe moments are actually quite far between..

The graphics and atmosphere is quite great, i enjoy exploring it, combat is ok. FPS on the bike is laughable though, in the lower 20 range, its so low its distracting, and i'm someone who's usually fine with a steady 30. The graphics are actually too good for a PS4 Pro. This should have been on PC and it would have been pretty great.

Yeah after getting used to play on PC and barely having loading screens,
Days Gone on Pro have many loading, even before and after cutscenes.
Other then that I'm now having some fun, tho i still consider mechanics like weapons durability, stamina and fuel to be annoying then adding fun,
I played many open-world games that you drive a car/bike and games like GTA etc are more fun without having to care about fueling.
Still a nice game and I'm getting used to the gameplay and enjoy. Smile

This is a very good game. No invovation, but it does a very good job in creating the zombie apocalyps atmosphere. Is the map you see in the beginning of the game the whole map? How would you run out of fuel traveling such a relatively small map?
Playstation had some very good exlusives this gen, I'd rate this one just a notch beneath games like God of War

There's more to the map later on.

Killed my first horde, was very fun, i died like 4 times before i manage to kill them all, and from what i read it's the easiest horde in game it's the:

Many hours later, i think i played about 60-70 hours, it's a shame there's no way to know how much i played, i seems in the late stages of the game..
Anyway.. my opinion on the game have completely changed,
I'm now having a blast! It's a rare game that i wasn't having fun at the beginning but later on i loved the game, was the same for me with Fallout 3.
After upgrading the bike and buying new weapons.. wow! I'm now destroying hordes Very Happy
I love the story and characters are good, especially deek and

I'm happy to end up loving it rather then enjoying a game at the beginning like Rage 2 and mid way to not even care.

So much Days Gone from loading Laughing

It's a very good game, I am really enjoying it, but there's mandatory loading for everything. I don't remember seeing a load screen this much in any game for a decade now. Hopefully they'll do it properly technically if a sequel comes since almost everything is well done.
Not liking the bruh atmosphere much, but I can live with it.

I finished it, I'd give it a 8.5, but the average tech and idiotic amount of loading makes it 7.5/10. I don't understand why even a 15 sec. cutscene needs a loading screen Confused
It had fun gameplay, story was pretty good (though it clearly is number one of a planned series) and the supporting cast was great (good characters and great VA). That great supporting cast also showed how average the main character is, derpy face and bad VA.

Good effort, can't wait for sequel. Being chased by a horde in the beginning was tense Very Happy

7.5/10

no its not standard, first thing i did was to throw out the hdd and replace it with a ssd.. i feel that a SSD is quite important for a console which doesnt have as much RAM for example as a PC.

Hehe, now I understand why they are bragging with the super awesome SSDs in the next gen consoles Smile I thought there was a 200GB SSD in it, but it has a 1tb hard drive. I'll probably play 2-3 games on it and move on, so too late to put in an SSD in there. I never had this problem with any other game though, I haven't seen so many loading screens in a game in years.

It's surely Days Gone issue as i can't recall when i had so much loading in a game.

I also play on Pro and there's a loading before cutscene and after, i really don't remember other game like this so it's not or should not be HDD vs SDD issue.

I played open-world games like Horizon ZD or Spiderman on PS4 Pro and they didn't have this kind of nonstop loading screen.

Lets hope they get rid of this for the sequel, the final final ending is awesome and made me ready for Days Gone 2. Very Happy

so i have been tiptoeing around this game forever now. but seeing as we will probably never see another kexploit from that douchy "ps4 scene" i figured i might as well update and pick this up cheap.

skimming the comments here and there this appears to be a very much underrated game at least in the state it is nowadays post patch.

loading times still seem to be an issue it seems but i guess thats a given for open words on consoles.

what about performance overall? i only have a standard-ps4 .. is there a vast difference betw standard and PRO performance with the latest patches?

cheers

I really struggled with the super narrow FOV in the game, which I imagine is the same on both machines. It remains the only 3rd person game that gave me motion sickness due to how much rotating of the camera I had to do just to see anything. Normally only 1st person shooters that cause me to feel as nauseous as I did playing this one (and I don't play many of them for that very reason!)

If you don't suffer from that, it's a decent game and performance is fine, except for super long load times!

Performance is shit on PS4 Pro.. you notice it mostly when you're on the bike, its clearly less than 30 FPS's.. From experience i would say 22-25'ish.

It's not a particularly good game, it's like FarCry, you get tired rather quickly of it imo..
