Woowee nice performance there, What settings are you running for that now? and was it just the driver update that made the improvements?

No not really just driver or game settings, arma2 is like arma1 was on first release to a point anyhow, "crap2 (lol)

I dont mean that in a real negative way to the game but more an obviousness in knowing the arma story of progress over the years. Arma2 regardless of what your told generally is the arma 1 engine, my best guess right now is as a developer they have stripped it back to the bare engine to make arma2.
Now in doing so they probably didnt want to apply all the knowledge gathered with the patches from arma 1 to is as they have obviously tweaked the engine for arma2 along with texture changes and ai script changes, animation changes etc etc.

So to apply any fixes to the engine as they did with arma1 might possibly cause them more issues to sort out than just starting from scratch with the slightly tweaked engine for arma2. Makes sense to me.

There are a ton of issues really regarding gfx settings with arma2 just like there was in arma1 Very Happy Fps as it stands will probably do strange things to most people where your one min all dandy and your 30 to 40 frames is fine so you carry on playing, then suddenly two new humvees for e.g will spawn in a mission from say an objective completed action for you to use and your fps hits 28 or lower frames, and does not go back up no matter what you do.

You could change your settings in the menu as much you like but you wont gain anything really back. Its just not gelling right now with hardware and that is primarily latest hardware, quad cores for starters are having a hard time for the most part behaving with the game.(thats nothing new though quads are known for that just like duals are and only recently were seeing the odd game work properly with dual cores, l4d for e.g)

Bis will tweak the engine as they always do and they usually do a great job along the way, so patience again in this crazy developing game world is needed for arma2 to shine.

The only things I have done to try to find the sweet spot for my pc build and arma2 as it stands is to use window modes for arma, using the kegetys noblur/bloom mod, alter your cards pre remder frames que (nvidia) or Flip que size(ati) options to see what best suits ur setup regarding cpu and memory bandwidth.

I have since though deleted all my profile files for arma2 and the application data stored ones .rpt files to start fresh and let the system build the cfgs again. I have also gone back into full screen mode, and forced vsync off with ati tray tools in a made "profile" with said tools. With or without of late now using the no bloom or blur mod I dont see much of a change fps wise.

My ingame settings are:

View distance 2400
Fillrate 133%
Textures very high
Vid memory very high
Anisotropic Filtering Very high
Terrain high
Object details high
Shadows Very high

My arma.cfg shows a few alteration when I rebuilt them but nothing majorly diff.

3D_Performance=93750;
localVRAM=1067663360;
nonlocalVRAM=1878257664;

My card is a XfX4870 1gb

Note that your profile for arma2 will be your desktop login profile (name wise normally) at start, you prob wont be able to delete it. Make a new profile and it will create a Arma 2 other profiles folder next to your arma2 one. Inside you will see your named profile you created, be sure to validate its all formated correctly as ive seen some that get made all garbled etc. If you use say . or spaces etc in your name creation note that the file for your profile may show like say, "Moose%2enoodles"

Thats not broken thats just a space between Moose and Noodles, %2e is the correct fillin so no location of the profile name is causing issues when windows looks for a named item.

So all in all nothing perse' to fix everyones arma but more in that one should tweak themselves while we dont have patch fixes to gain the best from theyre own system.

Cheers.

Nice Informative post there mate Very Happy Basically What you're saying is it's all down to thier poor scripting optimisation, And I can see why it's true because the scenarios and armoury missions run smoothly for me I can fly over the whole map in the chopper and land anywhere I choose and it all runs @ 30 - 60 FPS in max detail wherever I go, but in the main campaign it just dies because there is so much going on in the background. Guess we will have to wait for a few patches down the line then Smile

Also Another Interesting thing to note is the game runs alot better on Windows 7, I'm also curious to know why that is, maybe they are using a part of the DX11 API or maybe it's the fact that it runs better in 64 bit and makes better use of system memory, though if that where true then Vista shouldn't have any problems with it.

no idea from me twobells, im guessing hes done the dx9 latest install ? also what os is he on? make sure hes also not using any alchemy soundblaster stuff for eax in arma2. As that make the game fail to start anyhow. get him to delete all the configs and the files in the appdata for local user for arma2. then try to start game again. If hes using a pirate version with a legit key again users mileage varies with different pc builds it seems and mounting mds file.

I dont think using a cracked exe for legit key is always good either i can see them fucking that up for people soon enough in next patch..

Btw, saw you join KH server yesterday sometime but you didnt stay lol ?

I was trying to help him sort it out and everytime i joined and waited on him he crashed out.
The game works sp as well as all his other games it seems its a Windows 7 firewall issue.

Do you know the ports you need to set for Arma 2?

This is one heck of a game, especially the sandbox missions, even beats OF.

Some bugs are really annoying, I can't call the chopper to pick me up but I'm sure it was available before (chopper and mortar) now both are gone from the list after I loaded the game, fuck.

With a dilater.

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001680.html

Although this time around they are not working so well Sad mid treatment my eye came back with a severe kick me in the ass attack and so im back today at 11 for a recheck.

Uveitis problems worry me really cause there are like 4 other types other than iritis that can end up to lost sight, leaking blood vessels needing injections in the eye (omfg ouch), and other nasty things with cataracts and god knows what.

Trouble is not one doctor knows why people get it, there are plenty of thoughts and diet and all that jazz about it but no solid proof or link to the cause. Sort of leaves you high and dry.

I dont want it to get this bad lol

Legs and feet I can loose but my hands and eyes are essential to my happyness lol..

Interesting the aspartame stuff was supposed to be a big farce and not really contributory to anything as far as science is concerned.. But I cut out normal granulated sugar in my cups of tea and went over to sweetner lol thinking I was doing myself a favor. I also went back to normal granulated sugar for my tea sweetner as well over last few mnths.

Personally I think its more a calcium issue, ive had acid issues for years with my stomach and before that I had inflamatory issues with my joints randomaly beeing targeted by antibodies or something finding the right key shape and just going oh that will do and causing me no end of discomfort.

Anyhow ill cut back on the sugar, i just cant take tea without sugar lol thats more poison to me than anything Very Happy

I will keep looking further into peoples recommendations and self study with these problems.

"Legs and feet I can loose but my hands and eyes are essential to my happyness lol.."

I know what you mean friend!! here I´m having problems with right eye... and is fu%$% bad, before I can play and read for hours but now I can´t anymore... I´m using some drops and special glasses to help.

So good luck to you and to all save your eyes enjoy the games don´t make many problems if they run in low FPS...

before this problem I spend (waste) many hours with optimizations, mods and stuff... now I only want to enjoy some hours... so PLAY and don´t let the "tree hide the forest".... hope you understand (sorry x the "english")

Any way I can remove the mblur without patching my game? I can't patch it, cause I don't have a key that will work with it. Using the mblur remover without patching, gives me random errors here and there, and I can't use the editor.

1: Install game with cd key thats getting around. the g049 one.

2: Create a 1.reg file with notepad with the following lines

Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2]
"MAIN"="C:\\Program files\\Bohemia Interactive\\ArmA 2"
"KEY"=hex:

Remember to change the full path to your ArmA 2 install folder since it may be different then the above one(which is the default install path) if not leave it, Now save and run the .reg file you just created. The double \\ between folders MUST be there.

3. Install the official 1.01 final patch.

4. make a 2.reg file with these lines
Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2]
"MAIN"="C:\\Program files\\Bohemia Interactive\\ArmA 2"
"KEY"=hex:82,35,14,90,10,64,3e,02,4d,fc,49,0f,10,f5,b1

Save your 2.reg file and run it. The cd-key is now reinstated after patching the game because the patch doesn't like that particular cd-key the actual game won't mind. And you can now play the game. worked for me Smile

you can just remove the line with the installation folder
regedit won't touch entries that aren't mentioned
leaving it in allows for user error

I'm sorry for being late to this party and having no idea (well, kind of) on how to run this game properly, in English and with the latest patch. 36 pages and a shitty search-function = Sad

Has anyone posted some proper guidelines on how to do this? If so, wich page? Smile

One very bad design idea, hopefully will be fixed via a mod, this game is brutal and it's hard enough to keep yourself alive then way for smeging sake every time one of your three idiot teammates get themselves killed you get the game over sign, we need a mod that makes them immortal when they get injured then, if you kill all the enemies in the vicinity, you heal them all.

Either that or let them die and in the next mission they are alive again, jesus what where they thinking you have to play babysitter threw the whole game and keep these morons out of harms way because they sure love to die especially if there is an apc around, and why nobody carry's an RPG to heavy for ya? Friendly ai in OF was much smarter they didn't die as much and they blasted tanks up.

Just wait 5 days for the launch of the english version, you can't play this game right now anyway with the german beta, wait for english ver. plus new patch 1.02.

about 8 posts above yours, all there is to do after that ( once you have patched it to final 1.01 is backup 3 files & replace) games in english.

when you backup those files i used pbo_ . You cant just rename them leaving the pbo extension because the game will load it no matter what the name , making it still in german.
