Well, don't know. I guess it could be because I am used to my Diamond's 640x480. On the Omnia everythign looks very blurry to me.

The Xperia has 800x480 on 3 inches and it has a keyboard... so if you really want a keyboard and a nice display you'd get away with ~600$ (or even less)

As a HTC owner. No don't buy it.

Yeah it may sound stupid, but the built in ARM cpus are 3 years old. Wait for faster ones or get a mobile with better cpu speeds. Surfing is just no fun. And the Magics resolution isn't very good... same for the hero Sad

I hate apple but you should really consider getting a jail breaked iphone 3Gs :/ or wait...

No problem surfing here on Diamond 1. Confused Fast and responsive (I'd even argue Opera Mobile 9.5 is better than both the iPhone Safari and the Chrome version they have in Android). Smile

Go to grinhurtA, but be careful to read all about Hard SPL, flashing, etc... You know, so you don't get a fancy brick. Smile

OK... so nothing then

I posted this in the mobile forum that nobody reads, but I only have a choice of HTC Magic or Dream (upgrade from my cell provider).

Both are Android, right? I'm not sure Android is really worth it, tbh, at least not now. App development is still not at its prime, and the devices have awful resolutions... Sad

fair enough Smile I'm not necessarily in a hurry to buy anything ... just deciding whether or not to cancel my current cell phone contract a bit early.

what about the xperia X1?

I wouldn't get a Xperia. Hate the phone. Having a HTC Hero myself though and I think it's ok. It's getting faster now when I've learned that the way to go is not killing apps every now and then but to let the run in the background.

I have rooted it and I am quite happy with it. Sure it is slower than the Iphone 3GS, no question about it. In every aspect it is slower but the price is half of what the 3GS costs if you buy the phone itself. Lots of fun apps for the Hero though, there are also updates coming to Android phones that should speed things up. The iPhone wasn't all pretty when it was released either and the Android phones are very new.

If you're getting a Magic make sure to get the one with 288mb RAM and not the 192mb RAM vodafone version (possibly 192mb ram in other branded as well). Also I'd stay away from Dream since they have very little space left on the ROM so future upgrades of the OS might not be possible. Apparently it was some problems bringing cupcake (1.5) to the Dream because of the space issue. Future upgrades will be even harder since there is only a few hundred kb left.

As for browsing on the Hero I think it works ok. It is not always the fastest but once the page is loaded it's no problem navigating it and flash support is quite nice as well.

OK Smile Actually I think I'm just going to drop my current provider (they give new customers a much better hardware discount than their existing customers, so fuck 'em). Probably will wait until nov/december though to allow my contract to actually expire and then drop them for cable TV as well.

basically these are my choices from the new provider (will be getting sat TV from this place so needs to be from here):

really just the Palm Pre / Samsung Omnia / HTC Touch Pro / anything new between now and then

Hmm ok. The good thing with HTC phones is the great community over at grinhurtA-Developers. Constantly hacking ROM's, improving speeds and adding functionality between phones. They have done great work on most HTC Windows Mobile phones (with a few exceptions). We've had several of them at work and flashing them with a hacked ROM really made everything faster, smoother and generally better.

As for Palm phones these days I have no idea how good they are. On the other hand I chose the HTC Hero myself since I like fooling around with the phone and with Android that is a big thing plus it's HTC so the best of two worlds right there... Wink
