Set in Games Workshop's popular Warhammer 40,000 universe, Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine is a third person combat game to be published by THQ. The player takes control of an Imperial Space Marine, a human heavily augmented by gene therapy and rigorous military training to become the most powerful and most loyal foot soldier of the God-Emperor's Imperium of Man.
Zzz... To me it looks like a quick cash-in, actually having very little to do with the source material, aside from the obvious set pieces and characters. 40k is all about squad tactics and flanking, whareas this turd seems to be pure bullshit; one marine, equipped with a war hammer and a bolter, single-handedly mowing down hundreds of orks, probably boasting some silly combo system with fast, strong and special attack.
Notice: Pic unrelated, always fun to glance at Warhammer 40k art.
Most at the very least try to appear as if they are rooted within the rules of 40k, while this is a complete baloney. I am surprised Games Workshop has given their permission for such a thing. Then again, they have allowed for Warhammer Online to be made as well, so maybe they are cash-whoring with little regard to the final product.
Holy shit, it's actually coming then? I remember seeing some "leaked" beta videos of it being a WIP, almost a year ago.
Here's one;
While I don't feel quite as strongly against it as you do, Leo, I still think a lone Space Marine against an army of Orkz is just silly. Ah well, it could be good for a blast - as long as it doesn't incorporate "cover" systems. Grrr. I'm fucking fed up with GeoW clones now.
But no point in just popping them, they have to be done right. That's why the Dawn of War series were so good and successful. Dawn of War 2, for instance, was very close to the source, with minor changes (like squad sizes) for gameplay sake.
BTW, there is supposedly a mode for UT3 that is coming which is supposed to be set in the 40k universe.
GW actually have sections of their EULA for modding content and ideas, in which they grant full rights for mods to anyone -- but ONLY if they're complete. They stipulate that you can't put a Space Marine in Street Fighter, for example, but if you were to change the entire GAME so that it was nothing but Warhammer lore, setting, props, etc - then that's fine.
Strange methodology as it pretty much negates most user created content - because who the hell has time or ability to create an ENTIRE total conversion?
We want people to express their enjoyment of our games with as little interference from us as possible, as long as they behave reasonably with our IP and follow any reasonable requests that we may make. We are not inherently opposed to hobbyists creating games or mods using our IP, in fact we are flattered that people want to spend so much time creating games and mods in the GW universes.
If you want to make a game, TC or a mod using our IP you must adhere to the following (in addition to the general principles as outlined above):
* Any game or mod must be a "total conversion." In other words, you must not use our intellectual property (logos, images, names etc.) in relation to the worlds, names, logos, or images of any other company. For example, you cannot place our Space Marines in a Disney total conversion using the Unreal engine, but you could make a TC solely using Space Marines with the Unreal engine. This is, of course, assuming that you have permission to use the Unreal engine.
* Please bear in mind that we may require you to remove the game or mod from any public forum at any time so that we can comply with any licenses that we may have with computer game publishers/developers. Be aware that we may even have to insist that the mod be destroyed. Please take very careful note of this statement, as we would not want you to feel unfairly treated at a later date.
* The game or mod must be strictly non-commercial – this includes any web site that the mod or game is hosted on. You also cannot pay a printing company to publilsh copies of it onto CD. It may also mean that you cannot get sponsorship.
* It must be made clear on any readme files, splash/intro screens and accompanying material that the game or mod is unofficial and the origins of the intellectual property must be made obvious (e.g., your mod might say Battletoes a total conversion for XXXX (insert game name) using intellectual property owned by Games Workshop. Used without permission...etc." See the relevant disclaimer on the following page.).
* The game or mod must not devalue any Games Workshop product in any way.
* Any distribution (zipped or otherwise) of the whole, or any part, of the mod or game must be accompanied with the appropriate disclaimers and must also follow these guidelines.
* The functionality, atmosphere, and parameters of any mod or game must be consistent with the relevant IP.
.... of course, most people just ignore that shit anyway. I, myself, have tons of Space Marine armour and weapons mods for Fallout 3
Yeah, haha, too late about that... Already some excellent models out for UT3 for Space Marines, Sisters of Battle and Orks (maybe even others, not sure).
I bet MS doesn't allow the Halo character to appear in UT as well.
OMG you'd be surprised, especially the PS3 tw... gamers (we are in console section after all ). Especially in the beginning, when someone (EvilEngine, very talented modeler) made a pack with Gaylo 1, 2, 3 Master Chief and GoW models, and everyone on the PS3 was like "Muahahha we're sticking it to Micro$oft buahahah". It was very silly, I know.

Usually the one posting that trollface is the one who is wrong and is trying to make people angry at his silly argument on purpose. Cool, nice of you to admit.
Of course I'm wrong, dummy. The "accepted" acronym is GoW ... but then, I'm rebellious - and can't fucking stand Gears of Bore, so I'm attempting to change the world to fit with my own viewpoint.
ud think that a game with chainswords but be copying the chain saw function of gears of war like there was no tomorrow.
was sorta gay that a tiny unarmed chaos worshipper got "stunned" by a "heavy combo". A combo that included stuffing a chain sword trough his gut. Id think that would have been an instant fatality.
This game could be really cool if they had more gore. I mean power weapons are usuable against tanks. They should make minced meat out of enemies. atleast the little unarored ones.
True, but Power Armor in the WH40K universe basically turns people into walking tanks.
But yeah, it needs to have alot of gore. I want limbs flying while I'm flailing my chainsword around.
Owned. Now enough of this shit, I will start reporting discussion on this stupid topic (I'm serious I have slept now, so not looking to pass time with silly discussion ).
