Nah, I meant my own ... sorry. I went from 512MB to 1GB. I used to be running a 4850-512 and the game used to stutter sometimes, going up to 1GB on my 4870 not only allowed me to run in higher settings, thanks to the power of the card, but without stutering due to low vram.

Very Happy NP....I remembered you had an Ati but I thought you always had the 4870 lol
Anyway I managed to run the game at decent fps (30-40fps), but my E6600@3ghz doesn't allow me to improve much than this.

Game feels alot smoother if you play with a gamepad and have motion blur enabled.

the only reason to play it on PC is that you can use a mouse to aim, gamepad sucks for GTA imo.. I just love my Logitech G13 and G9 Smile i really recommend the G13, a big improvment over using WASD imo..

Nope. Game looks and runs hell of alot better on PC, that's the main reason to play it on one. I finished with mouse+kb first time and now playing it second time with a pad. I have just as much fun playing with a pad as I did with mouse+kb, if not more.

Oh well, might give the PC version a miss then, since I already completed the game together with my little brother on his 360 and I won't have money for upgrading until I get a new job. Thanks for the info guys.

Minor spoilers regarding that mission.

That's a timing problem (I think), had that as well now and then, that helicopter will fire a missile now and then and sometimes it'll hit your helicopter and thus kill you or fail the mission as it's destroyed, this is supposed to happen if you're to slow but now and then you get into a situation where you're a bit faster than the game expects so a missile is fired at the player (Kinda like when you're in the boat) directly when you jump from the boat to the helicopter and this'll hit the helicopter instead.

Redo the mission and try to wait a while before jumping onto the helicopter from the boat, this should solve the problem. Smile
(Had the same issue but now I have another one, every time the guy driving the enemy helicopter crashes into buildings or gets shot down and then gets stuck, seems he is supposed to crash but at another location so I can't complete the mission at all, hehe bit annoying but I'll figure it out.)

I think something fucked up my relationships with kiki and carmen. I started to date them just before I got the dwayne/playboy x mission. After I finished that mission, suddenly stuff seems weird. Neither one wants to go out, (even thouhg I had like 79% fondness for each one and then carmen acts like I hadn't called her in a month (I went out with her the night before, maybe 2 days depending on how much time passed) and kiki first sends a text that says chill for a bit, then sends a text that says "call me, I need to see you", so I call her and she says "we need to take it slow, another time".

If you could get a consistent 20-25 fps then it will be playable. The problem is that the fps dips lower at times, and more so after hours of game...
That's how I play :S

It's the CPU you should be looking to upgrade. Quad core and you are set to go.

I've been playing this game for some 8 hours now and I still can't drive for shit.
Is there a mod or something which makes driving a bit more easier especially when turning ?

Yeah, if it takes 200m to come to a stop when you slam the brakes.

Dunno, maybe I need to use the gamepad, but you can't properly control the camera and aim with analog sticks.

Not really. If quad core cpu is low clocked and dual core is high clocked it'll work on dual core better.

I have a E6420 (2.13Ghz) & a GTX 260.

Game is playable but my CPU is the crippling factor (Graphics at highest settings at 1680*1050)
before I had the 8800GTS 320 MB, game was unplayable on lowest settings.

after updating my dualcore to a quadcore, and my 512mb 4870 for a 4890 I also installed Win7 RC1, everything works like it should, only retrieving my live account in gta4 doesnt work, because of an ilegal key i am using ( as the message says..)

the key I'm using is an DOW2 beta-key one, but even after the trial of DOW2 i reinstalled GTA4 on my XP SP3 machine, and that time it worked flawlessy Question

my question is: Did MS do anything about it, or is a Win7 issue!?
anybody recently reinstalled with a G4WL key and had the same issue? (no matter what OS) Question

I've got that same CPU, with a HD4870, same problem, plus my motherboard didn't allow overclocking, changed the motherboard and started overclocking it to 2.40, 2.60, 2.80 and then finally 3.0ghz and left it at that and now the game plays much better. Still even using the standard intel heatsink and fan, the E6420 is a great CPU to overclock.
