I say this pre-release stuff EA say is bullshit, the txt states version 1.0 - June 2nd so it was ready to be shipped imo, and I think the version number is different because as smbdy pointed out before, this version is digital download and not DVD release so obviously the version might differ a little... I'm pretty sure a patch will happen for this one too.

It's not the first time DL versions had a different patch than DVD one.

fair comment.

Well, I think the AC beta also had a readme stating 1.0 iirc, so that's not an indicator. Documentation is usually done way before the final touches. Smile

Could be that way iNatan and regarding the patch I first thought it was for the retail edition but going trough it with the "isCabVu" utility reveleaed that it was for the digital download copy and the xml itself is used by the EA Download Manager client to find updates for the game. Smile

We'll see how things turn out once the game is properly retailed I guess, game is still playable in it's current state and reinstalling/redownloading isn't a big issue aside from perhaps download limits via ISP and such.
(Connection speed as well but some people pirate DVD's with ISDN or even old modem conenctions, hehe.)

EDIT: Better explanation via a view of the registry settings from the ISCabVu program.

I'm still torn on the whole "buy or not?" thing. If EA want my money (...not really going to affect them either way, I am but a drop in the ocean afterall) then they need to unlock the game. IF it's moddable, I will buy it. IF it's not? EA won't see a penny from me.

What I won't do, however, is buy their DLC. $60 for a fucking collection of hairstyles and beds? No. Just fucking NO.

Well the only way to see if it's moddable is to wait. It will be cracked - so you won't miss anything from playing the warez version (you say you won't buy DLC). Smile

Annnnnnyway, back on topic while we wait for Kappa to get bored;

I've been reading up more on the links you posted, JB, and that Sims3packager tool looks like it has promise! I think I'm starting to "get" what EA have done now. They won't allow you to modify GAME FILES (hence the encryption keys) but given that you can add .packages to the game's INI files, then I believe modding is very much a strong possibility. Once tools and packagers start coming, I think my earlier reservations will be forgotten.

I still stand by my original declaration; give me homebrew mods, I'll give you cash. Lock out modding and only offer your official DLC, I'll laugh and pirate the game instead.

I read about that on Modthesims2.com (in the Sims 3 section) - it's a reported bug/glitch, though I don't recall a resolution being posted, sorry Sad

Scavanging for gems is quite a profitable endavour. I found an uncut gem (luminous or something) worth 450$, sent it to be a crystal ball (current best method, maybe there's an even better cut). Now it's worth 1300$ and I keep it in my living room on a stand. It's glowing. Very Happy
