I actually like that. It's not like EA cutting out part of the retail game in order to make money off sales and DLC -- it's them cutting a part out to stop the pirates, as they're giving it away freely and easily to those that buy the game.

Still though, I'd wager a pretty big % of the people who buy the game is never going to register it and download that second city.

Bullshit, man! TS3-Launch is built into the game, you can't miss it, and if you've got the game - why NOT register? Nah, I reckon - and with word of mouth helping too - everyone who buys the game WILL register it and get the freebies.

I agree.. I just dont beieve the myth that most ppl arent active on the internet, its pure bogus. Most people are in fact very active on the internet regarding their hobbies and whatnot.
Even a 12 year old girl that just came home from the store with Sims 3 would have internet to talk to friends and email school and bullshit. And when she'd launch Sims 3 she'd see a fancy new hairstyle and go on to register the game.
This is 2009, not 1995. Smile

*shrug* I planted 6 life plants and have about 30 death fish. I also have death plants, which give death flowers. Haven't figured out what to do with those yet.

Hrmph, the known sims list really should include the sims' age in their details. Wasted another day seducing this hot blonde but it was all for nothing since she's just a teen so no woohoo for me (if the game is moddable at all it won't take long for the woohoo unlockers to appear, which would be awww-right!).

For those with other careers than criminal - do you get something extra from your work (excluding the obvious like paychecks, raises and the occasional work related opportunities)? I have the maxed criminal career with the Evil branch, and I get free crap added to my family inventory almost every work shift I do. And it's good crap too - usually art items (gotten the 'Ambiquity Itself' several times now, which is worth over 12k) and the mysterious gnomes which sell for 1k apiece as well.

I can hold a meeting for 2 hours. Gets me $750. With my work and meetings, I make about 7k/day as a corporate ceo.

Wife is a movie composer, she can hold autograph sessions or concerts and make a killing if she has a good show (over 5k once)

Authors obviously with their books and such make a tonne too.

The wife is a cop (lvl10 special agent) and along the way I got a squad car as a reward for a promotion. Now I had a message that I can raid a criminal hideout, but I have no idea how. No item in inventory, no marker on map, no opportunity, no nothing. I might get some material reward from that, who knows.

Heh, sometimes it feels like the game's reading my mind... Was just cursing to myself at the city park how there's no proper wife candidates (even with the charming perk and charisma it's still a real bitch to keep up the relationship in longterm... almost everyone seems to hate the pure evil red glow aura that emanates from my sim Very Happy).

So, what do I see next but a female burglar running past at a blazing speed. Fortunately I'm quick enough with the pause button and manage to intercept her - a complete stunner and as a bonus has the evil trait too, so it's easy to hit off with her.

Interestingly enough, her details page lists her job as 'Burglar', but when I got to control her myself (invited to live with me since she doesn't live in the town, being a special npc) I could see she's unemployed... go figure.

Another nice bug that she has is that all her needs are always maxed out! I mean could you think of a better wife candidate? It's like having a stepford wife - no need for sleep/food, no mood swings, just a 100% obedient work horse and love machine. Razz

Because the game isn't officially out yet and modders won't touch it or release anything until it is.

Hmm. So is it really possible to throw birthday parties at any point and quicken aging? I'm playing at Epic speed, and my Sim and his wife are 110 days or so away from eldership (?). They've just had twin girls, who'll be toddlers in around 25 days. That's pretty long, and considering it takes like 70 days after that to reach Child stage, the girls will have elderly parents way before they become teenagers!

So if birthday parties can be thrown at any point, I can enjoy their phases for a couple of weeks before I get bored and decide to skip to the next one.

This is what one of the absolute modding gurus of Sims 2 has to say:

Quote:
Despite all the doom and gloom, it looks like there may be a ray of hope (Even though "ray of hope" is the kind of name I would give to a combat lazor.):
It looks like the way TS3 is structured MAY in fact be highly moddable, perhaps more so than TS2. Here's where it all goes to shit: Unfortunately, the scripts are also compiled, encrypted, and digitally signed. We have had success in breaking through the encryption, but unfortunately, they are also digitally signed to SPECIFICALLY PREVENT THE GAME FROM ACCEPTING THIRD-PARTY MODIFICATION. We have also been able to partly decompile them: However, the scripts are implemented as monolithic blobs. This makes it very difficult to do any kind of small contained mod, meaning you are only table to use mods from ONE source at a time, effectively. The other major problem is that the decompilation process produces code that is full of errors and will not compile. We're talking thousands of errors that must all be fixed. And this will be a pain in the neck that has to be dealt with every time patches come out or expansions are made. yay. Maintenance hell. Also, you pretty much now have to be a "real programmer" to even attempt modification: Code in TS3 is much lower-level than TS3's SimAntics bytecode. It is much more powerful, but also that much more inscrutable. What does this mean? Hard to say, it's not an issue which personally affects me. Will we get more because "real programmers" can apply their existing skills, or will we get less, due to the massive incompatibility issues, the fact that you essentially have to choose to play either EAxis, or Awesomemod, and not some mix-and-match combo of Awesomeware, Jeffyware, and Squingeware like you'd like to in TS2. At least the support will be less of a pain in the ass.

Of course, none of this matters: Scripts are digitally signed with private keys to permit only official modification. It is possible to hack the game to make it WORK, but there's no telling what conflicts it could cause down the line, as EAxis will surely try to shut it down, and the techniques used to achieve this hackage may not sit well with, say, the Evil That Is SecuROM. Yes, SecuROM may prevent you from being able to mod your game now.

And this is what the preview said on the matter:

Quote:
The game will have modding tools built into it, to some extent; it's being designed from the ground up to be open, rather than having tools released as an afterthought.

Laughing @ PR-speak.

...... sigh. I guess we should have expected EA to step in and put a stop to modding Sims 3, especially after they started incorporating their OWN dlc packs via the store Sad

I guess I should have expected it, but even doing so doesn't soothe the feeling of being gut-punched. Encrypted and locked? Nice one EA. Thanks loads, ta.

(oh and this also further reinforces my belief that Bethesda deliberately broke homebrew modding for Fallout 3 in their latest patch. People getting free addon mods and content just detracts from "possible" sales for Bethesda)

I wouldn't worry that much actually. The Sims modding community is probably the largest in existance and they are likely to make progress given time, the only question is "How much time?". Patience is a virtue though. Wink

Looks like that's the way.

I should've checked out the lessons menu, since the info's there. I threw the birthday party with no cake (hoping it'd magically appear to some point near the end), and it ended up being a normal party in swimsuits, with tons of food. However, my Sim kept a bad thought, given ONE guest was unhappy (due to refusing to donate funds for my guy's campaign). Stupid cheap-ass bastard Thornton. Evil or Very Mad

The baby twins were thrilled about their failed birthday party, though. Razz

Oh, that reminds me: does aging up one of the girls ages up the other as well or are they twins just in name, and I'll have to throw a second party for the other one? That'd probably happen the next day, breaking the twin-ness time-wise.
