Ok, I'm not sure if this has been asked already, but how do you go inside a different building (camerawise) than your own house ? All I see is a building or from the outside or an empty inside; with no furniture, only a floor. I'd like to see my sim doing his work, for example.

I see my sim with interior when looking through windows from outside fine.. you only see I think other peoples houses inside if you go visit etc, otherwise they are left empty.. But your own place should be fine all the time. No Ideas here why you have that problem.

Edit: ah re-read ur question, then no u dont see him at work etc, but gym, invites into homes and all that you can.. othewise as i said nada... Ill leave what i typed a min ago incase its worthy of info for others lol.

I think you can only go into community buildings. Never into work buildings. That would be awesome though, if you could actually WORK at work. But you can only see outside. Something tells me though, that might be an expansion in the future (unless you could already do that with other Sim's games).

This build mode is slightly fun, slightly frustrating.

I couldnt select any empty lots for my first family either.. Only one of the pre-built houses.
You can however delete everything in that lot and start over.
You can also enter the "edit/change city" mode and add more pre-built houses to the empty lots (that still are unviewable when starting a new character), or build a new house.

But yeah, i still cant just make a new family and move into an empty lot.
Either i gotta move into a pre-built house and raze it, or i gotta build a house in the edit city mode, go back out, and buy it with the new family. Its a bit of a hassle.

I was able to move into an empty lot with my first and second family... I just disabled the tutorial before I played.

God Damn it. I had some downloading going on while playing.. and run out of HDD space, and without knowing it decided to save my game.....And now i got this nice and lovely corrupted save..
Fuck me for not saving on different saveslots

My custom built house, skill progress...lifetime wishes gone. sigh.. I've even tried to restore some previous savefiles with various undelete programs. no luck Sad I guess my only way now is to cheat to restore my achievements.. but so far there are no cheats for skilll progress/wishes points/career advance Sad

Did you check your save folder? The game keeps a backup file of each save there (it's the save you made prior to your current one) - in Vista the folder is C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves

The actual savegame is for example Sunset Valley 1.sims3, and there's a backup called Sunset Valley 1.sims3.backup

yes,i've cheked them out. There was no backup for the latest save.. instead there was a backup 2 days old.. which was.. semi corrupted... gave error on loading Sad

edit: i've never used the cheat engine but i suppose it's time. The funny thing is i alway try to have different saves , even make regular backups of some games Sad

Ouch, that's a shame... Well guess you learned the hard way to keep multiple save slots. Razz

Hope EA patches the saving issues, heh if you check the readme there's like 15 completely different error codes that all disable saving (and one of them has the description "unknown...sorry! Very Happy).

You can cheat your lifetime rewards/points back tho if you want, check my earlier post about Cheatengine.

changing display driver from 181.71 beta to 185.85 may have worked - i played 2 hours sims3 with no crash and saving games worked as intended. but after the 2 hours sims2 i started wow up and it crashed after 1 hour and wow never crash for me :/

i have a question for sims3 : how do you manage to do things when from i get up in the morning i spend all time having the green bars up. it takes 5 minuts to sit down on a chair. if i have to go work at 8 i need to be up at 5.30 to be able to get bath toilet food. sims3 has the same error as sims 1 and 2. time is passing TOO quick and it destroys the game. i cant believe they still made that big error.

You can change the clock in the option menu from 12-hour to 24-hour, might help a bit unless you've already done this Smile

For the guitarr street performance it might require that trait that allows you to beg.

What really annoyed me: I wanted to make a good meal for the competition in town but until 14:00 I was only allowed to prepare brunch, but I had to go to work! WTF am I supposed to do? Should I've done the meal in the afternoon before and put it in my inventory for the whole night? It would have rotten...

@Zarni: You've got to reach Guitar-Level 5 at least to play for money...

i just looked and i have no selection mark in the 12-hour clock - so i goess its set to 24 hour, but isnt there a way to hack the game so time passes slower ?

The game is great ! (Never thought Ill say this for a Sims game Very Happy )

Anyway something that i think was funny to share with you guys . So ive married my maid and she got pregnant, same day the baby was born im sitting at home and I get a phone call from my secret girlfriend who I bang without the wife knowing , she invites me to meet at the gym .
Dunno if it was a bug but i had the little baby in my hands when I accepted the invite and the fucker went to the meeting with the baby in hands...

When i got there i started to flirt etc and my sim puts the baby on the ground ! and then starts kissing / hugging etc. After this my kid had this red icon lowering his happiness that says it witnessed love betrayal -50 mood or smth. That made me laugh my ass off Smile

Insanely fun game , ive got one question if anyone knows - I have the aging disabled in the options but now i suspect that my baby is affected by it aswell ? I sure as hell dont plan on nursing that thing indefinitely , now im thinking if I should enable aging for a bit or just leave the kid in the basement Twisted Evil

edit: After the baby was born, one of the first wishes of my main sim who is an Emperor of Evil , was to steal the candy off of my little son Razz

That might be because/if you didnt lock the hairstyle to all outfits. So your sim will switch to its bed time hairstyle, which happens to be bald Razz
Try using your closet to change your outfits, or the mirror to change your hairstyle, and see if there's a setting to lock it for all outfits.

Basement swimming pool. lol!
It was a bit of a hassle, i had to first make the foundation border. Flatten / lower the ground, add floors. Then add walls and floors on top of the foundation.
Then remove the foundation, add walls to the basement, then re-add the foundation around the walls. It wouldnt let me place walls next to the foundation unless i deleted it first Embarassed

Messing around with the build tool some more, seems like you can sort of work around the max. floor limit if you build different sections on to different foundations.

Counting the basement, that's 8 floors total - problem is it won't let connect the floors (the gap behind the book icon in the picture) so you need to use the stairs to circumvent it.
