Maybe if you extract all contents from the image to a folder on your hdd and rename data2.cab to data1.cab or maybe you do not need data1 at all and just extract all other cab files and put them in one directory and start the game.

how about we stand on one leg, spin round clockwise 3 times while whistling the argentine national anthem.....with a feather up our arses

data1.cab no doubt is needed and renaming another file to it has as much hope of working as what i suggested above Wink

No I would like to think I know Very Happy and for the most part on prob 90% of data cabs data1 is the sole instigator of everything that follows via unpacking, ur fucked without it usually period....

yeah, we just need someone who has one of those versions to upload the data1.cab file.

btw just tried to rename data2.cab to data1.cab, it doesnt work.

and if data2cab is 6gb, the data1.cab must be really small....

If you unpack data2.cab to your HDD it may work.
data1.cab is usually only few KBs, it contains info for the installator, pictures you see during installation etc.
I don't have a game so i can't check if it works

Excuse me for just bumping in but why not just unpack the archive manually?

I don't have the game (yet) so I can't try this method but this utility should handle CAB/HDR installshield files.

(Ripped from the SDK, worked with everything I've tried it on so far.)

EDIT: Oh and Data1.xxx is usually just the installer files (Unless there's a separate archive for those already.)

Anyone tried replacing data1.cab file with a .cab from some other game? If it's just the installer it might work. Either way this is just pathetic that the gold version wasn't checked. Sad sad sad

What should be doable is to open the .CAB file with the program, switch to file view and then unpack everything but as you say I still need to download and test this method myself though it seems the .hdr file with the info about the .cab file is also missing which is quite a fuck-up to put it bluntly.

Steam rip should work just fine though if it's released. Smile
(At least until a proper disc based image is created by the publisher and then uploaded by another group or as a proper by GoW)

Its just as much GOW's fault as it is the persons responsible for not checking the final disks. GOW didn't even install it and put out a rls.

From the link posted previously to the official "Salvation" game forums I found out that the game uses a serial and that it most likely needs to be "verified" (Activated) first before starting the game so even if it'll install somehow not many people will get past the disc check before the serial gets blacklisted due to all activations.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/softwareserialnumbers/f/terminator-salvation-serial-number.htm

EDIT: Unless it's just a serial check protection and no activation, need to check this as well it seems, doubt it though as serial numbers are mainly used for multiplayer and this game is SP only with local Co-op via gamepad.

This had resolved it for those gamers.

1) Delete everything you can in C:\Windows\Temp
2) Delete everything you can in C:\Documents and Settings\<your profile>\Local Settings\Temp
3) Delete the folder C:\program files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime
4) Manually run Setup.exe from the disc.

If you still get errors right click on the task bar and choose Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab. Select ctfmon.exe and click "End Process". Close the Task Manager and try installing again.

edit- just tried... of course it didnt work, since data1.cab is missing. Sad
