Sequel to 'Most Widely Distributed Christian PC Game In History' Goes Mainstream June 15
hahahahaha - I wonder if you can actually play as the bad guy in this one? Could you imagine selecting the "dark forces" and then there's like a pop up box that starts preaching to you and and the next thing you know it's quoting scripture and got you reading the bible until you finally agree to play as the good guys? hahahaha
I acutally didn't think the game was pure shit - as well as the books.
If you go ahead and read them just as novels and ignore the fact that they try to preach to you, they are pretty enjoyable. *shrug*
i wish i could attempt to read the books or even give them or the game the benefit of the doubt but i had a christian upbringing. during my teens it finally clicked in my head to ask questions to which everyone's answer was "you're not supposed to doubt or question, you're supposed to have faith". yea i was thinking the same thing at the time - WTF?
needless to say that was the beginning of my eyes being opened. nowadays i don't buy into any religion but i have come to the conclusion that religion has a lot in common with guns - neither are actually bad it's the people behind them that you have to be weary of.
Don't get me wrong. I ain't no christian. I'm neither christian, jew or muslim or whatever.
Strictly agnostic my friend
I just see those books as fantasy novels and not as some wannabe scripture thingie.
And as simple novels (at least the first, i haven't read more) it's quite entertaining.
I didn't have a religious upbringing, my parents both don't give a damn about the church but you have to admit that apart from the "have blind faith" (btw. awesome band and such things, christian values aren't all that bad. I mean compassion, forgiveness, renounce violence - those thing ain't half bad and if more people followed those (doesn't matter if they are religious - christians or others) the world would be a whole lot of a better place, don't you agree?
There's a Christian Videogame? Wtf? Can you like play as Jesus and accept Lucifer's offer during the Last Temptation? Now that would be fun. Or jump off the cross and say "Fuck it, I'm dying for you dickheads" and start going ape shit on everyone using your God powers?
I would play a game such as that.
But alas, I fear this game is nothing of the sort....
I think I heard about this. Its the one where you play the chatolic priest and go fondle alter boys right? and once you get caught you just get relocated to a new town/level.
I suffer from an acute case of dyslexia called lazyness
I say what I mean but I dont mean everything I say
The first one was based on the idea of rapture (no, not bioshock but the fact that one day (in the beginning of the apocalypse) all true believers will be brought to heaven.
So basically the book (and the first game) start with dunno how much of the world's population disappearing and the rest of the book is the story of those "Left Behind".
Mind you the New York Times actually gave the book a pretty good review so did the Chicago Tribune.
And the game is pretty much an RTS with you steering the good forces towards survival and in the end to their access to heaven (iirc)
The game was pretty much shite, gameplay wise. The story wasn't half bad.
Again, it sounds actually much worse than it is (if you know what you are getting into and don't take the whole religion thing too serious)
Im still in awe of the fact that not only did you pick up on this "series" to begin with. Youve actually played it.
I played the demo when it came out and they let you play a couple of missions.
I never played the full game!
But I do have the first book lying around (haven't read it though, only skimmed through a bit)

ROTF
I acutally cracked up for real. Excellent. I'm gunna use that in a Christian chat room next time I'm bored and in the mood to piss off the holier than thou people excellent
Between levels you’re given screens full of text espousing fundamentalist viewpoints, implying evolution is a myth, or stating why the Bible is authentic, while it plays Christian pop at you.
Quote:
It’s important to recognise that Left Behind: Eternal Forces is a dreadful game separately from any of its religious themes. Strip out the Christian fundamentalism and you’re left with an embarrassingly poor, extremely buggy RTS, in an engine that’s comically awful.
how can one defend something like this? for the shame, reklis, for the shame
here's a , to show that not all of them are crap (it's definitely worth bearing through the intro)

First of all, like I said, I only played the demo and that wasn't all that buggy or shabby.
Certainly not AAA but not uber crap and I don't get you folks.
Seriously? If you know what you're getting into (like those screens between level) even if you read it, you wouldn't all of a sudden start to believe it, would you?
I don't see what the problem is, if you don't believe in it (and are of a somewhat stable mindset) this stuff won't certainly lead you to be a hardcore christian all of a sudden.
The only point I am trying to make is that, only because it's a christian game that tries to spread it's fundamentalist propaganda, it doesn't necessarily have to be a bad game.
That it is a rather not so well made game, that's on a completly different level.
the problem ain't that the propaganda might be effective, it's that the whole game is just propaganda, they just packed into something interactive. so not only are they spreading shit, they're also selling that shit. you can say what you will about those jehova's witnesses, but at least they have the manners and the common sense to give their shit for free
Like I said, I was interesting in the game because the story of the rapture is a pretty interesting one.
Indeed it is shitty but one shouldn't bash it based solely on the christian background
Oh and Jehova's Witnesses don't give out stuff for free.
With them you have to endure, accept _and_ cover up the fact that there's a whole lot of child abuse going on. That in addition to some other stuff so they don't come as easy as one might think

Ultimately, our opinion of this game is based less on the message it contains than the way it looks and plays. The basic design of the game is intriguing and worthy of a better treatment than it gets here. Fighting for and keeping recruits requires some thoughtful and persistent strategies and the fact that you have to do it without shooting or stabbing your enemies adds even more depth. Unfortunately, the inconsistent behavior of your recruits means you'll spend more time fighting the interface than the Antichrist.

Don't mock Left Behind: Eternal Forces because it's a Christian game. Mock it because it's a very bad game. The real-time strategy/adventure game from Left Behind Games based on the best-selling series of novels from Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins will even let down born-again types who expect the Rapture to beam them up to heaven any day now. [...]Still, games are typically based on outlandish ideas, so it's unfair to dismiss this one based on religious grounds
meh, i don't care how good the actual game behind the whole propaganda business is, that's just like trying to admire the scarf that covers the shit that your christian friend just bought
Let's leave it at that:
You just hate it because it's christian
I don't give a fuck if it's christian.
Puts it pretty good, right?
Good that we solved that.
And, fyi, no way I am gonna play the 2nd game.
I tried the first, the demo wasn't bad, but apparently the full game was shite.
No way I fall into that trap with the 2nd one
