Valkyrie 3/5

Nice suspence thriller, got a few usual suspects vibes when watching. Though this is nowhere near the brilliance of that movie. I liked Tom Cruise as Stauffenberg, he played the part with great enthusiasm.
An important film that shows not everyone were monsters in Hitlers third reich.

Well...it depends... Stauffenberg didn't want to take down Hitler for "the good of all mankind" (thats a job for the US of A), but to obtain Fuhrer's position. So he is not a crystal clear person...more like the lesser of two evils (although we don't know what would happen if he had succedded).

6.5/10 - interesting aussie horror/thriller with an interesting premise (teens try to blackmail serial killer to waste a bully in their life) but ultimately turns out a bit mediocre.

I'm going to wait until the weekend to check it out but I've hit up pt 1 through pt 6 on bluray and Generations on an HDTV rip ... so at least I have a fresh mind about how mediocre some of those were ...

Exactly!! I was waiting for "Beam us up Scotty!". Not Scotty saying "This is the first time Ive beamed two people from separate locations".....

Still, Scotty was the only one I enjoyed.

O'hura (sp?), Kirk, Young Spock, Chekov (worst character....they couldn't find a russian?) Sulu....horrible.

Chekov was played by Anton Yelchin. . . are you ready for this?
Who was born in Leningrad, USSR [now St. Petersburg, Russia].

Wink

Dude... my dad even liked it. And that saying something. He is the type of person that can tell you Kirk's social security number. (exaggerating but you know what i mean).
I'm no die hard ST fan, but I have watched all the old series (I'm turning 40 in a few months) and The Next Gen. I didn't get into Enterprise or any of the newer ones.
I know what Pon Farr is if that counts. Laughing
And yes I have seen the movie.

I liked Young Spock, although it was a bit ridiculous how he went mental over a 'your mum' insult. In real life most human military officers would have simply had Kirk removed from the bridge. A half Vulcan should be even more disciplined.

Plus Kirk's characterisation was ridiculous, he came across as an arrogant, narcissistic, pretentious twat, who's only concern was getting his own way. His 'plan' was to beam over the two most senior officers to the enemy ship and save the day? Fucks sake!

I'd still give it 7/10 though, because if you look a the film separate from the rest of the Star Trek canon, then it's not bad at all.

Ok, watched Angels and demons: 7/10. The book was better, of course, but they changed a lot of things, and you can't really say everything in short period of time. Other than that it was a nice, action film Very Happy

AGain, totally agree with you.

If you don't hold it to ESTABLISHED Star Trek (all the series) cannon, its a good movie.

But if you look for any traditional Star Trek cannon, horrible horrible movie.

It was irritating to watch but you just listed the important characteristics of most successful military leaders. And most away-missions in ST are composed of the senior-most crew and on occassion the odd red-shirt. Razz

Solaris 8.5/10 , i can't seem to connect to the 72 version , dunno why , it's probably all the science that i don't find any interest in , all the psychological stuff from that version was pretty well concived in Rheya's character in the 2002 version , so .. i guess i like that one better , it really falls into place with it's awesome cinematography and music .
it could have been better tho , the script is a tad different and ends like Tarkovsky's version does , but i still liked the idea of Solaris being more mysterious , a whole planet , not just an ocean.
