i'm not a trekkie but i've seen the movie "first contact" and i started to watch the tv show "ST:Enterprise".
it doesn't matter if you're a trekkie or not -> you will like it.
i can't say anything else...it was just fucking awesome.
question:
Spoiler:
that bad ass monster on the frozen planet where kirk landed...was that the monster from cloverfield?..it looked like the monster from cloverfield...i'm sure... oh and "slusho" was mentioned in the movie ^^
One question. Is it heavily action oriented, or was that just the trailer? I know Star Trek never had great story, maybe only DS9. How is the story in this one?

Damn, I envy you so much, I still have to wait another 16 hours to see it!!...
I'm back from the cinema aswell. And I really really liked the movie. Only the nostalgics will disagree but on a quality level this is by far the best star trek movie. Sure, they made it "simpler" but atleast it's very entertaining, even for not-star-trek-fans.
8,5/10!
Oh and I thought that the story was pretty good and there was a lot of action! (some of the action felt...forced, but that's why I only gave 8,5 and not 9!)
Again, if you expect the godfather go and see something else. If you want to get entertained with a really good sci-fi film then you should watch star trek.

I liked it, still rank the old movies higher obviously but it's a very good reboot imho. The first Star Trek movie was the first time i ever saw Star Trek (i had never heard of ST before the first movie, it wasn't exactly airing in sweden at the time so..), anyways it was amazing and drew me to eventually start watching ST:TNG when that came out (i had satellite at the time, i think i watched it on Sky One but i'm not sure).

I'm really thinking about seeing this movie again but in an IMAX movie. I've never been in an IMAX before, so would it be worth it? I don't know that much about IMAX but it is supposed to have better sound and better displays right? Further it is said, that the movie is captured on 35mm, is that enough for imax?
cause it's a sfx movie!! all sfx movies are imax xp. sfx is all crisp. super high def. pretty sounds. big screens. heck tdk on imax... that one scene in the begining wit hthe bank and all... got me all afraid of heights and shit it's pure spunk in my pants!!!
bigger screen and better sound? I didn;t notice anything extra ordinary while watching regular Watchmen and IMAX Watchmen but then again I wear glasses...
TDK had scenes shot specifically for IMAX (like the scene at the beginning). The "IMAX Experience" is a bullshit marketing label, just like most such labels are.

Awww shit I knew that TDK had those special made imax shots. And as IMAX experience is a new slogan, I thought that only chosen movies with special filming techniques would've been accepted. So nothing special then? But on the other hand, the cinema I was in was pretty bad, as the sound almost came only from the front and the seats were like shit + the projection was a standard projection.
great movie .. i wouldnt give it more than an 8.5 , my main issue is that Nero's character is as developed as i expected , but probably for a reason .. i guess he would have been to sympathetic as a villain , but somehow i would have like it that way . not the ubermacho DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE bullshit at his demise .

I would venture so far as to say the complete opposite. However you like the screenwriting etc the first movies allmost always had a very heavy and deep philosophical question at the core of the movie but the action was in my opinion secondary to the plot(of course there are contradictions such as ST IV i think was quite funny or something, haven't seen it).
This is very action oriented, though according to reviews.
