From what i gather, a hero will be able to design their own arch nemesis which will be utilized in the story archs. You even customize the look of your powers and stuff. | You do realize that CO is made by Cryptic Studios, who made CoX as well? The surprising thing would be if it wasn't like their previous game, so it's perfectly natural to compare their new game to their old one, it's not just because of the SH setting. Roper joined around 2/3 way through the development.

Spoiler: | Quote: | Cryptic may be considering including microtransactions in its forthcoming suerphero MMO Champions Online, going by the beta test.
Eurogamer gained access to the Champions Online beta last weekend. We noticed that the game's menu features an option called "Champions Store". When selected, this brings up an error message mentioning the word "microtransactions".
We contacted Cryptic for comment. "As you may have noticed in the recent play test for Champions Online, we are currently testing functionality for in-game transactions," the developer replied in a statement.
"Virtual asset sales are a necessary component of the greater Cryptic platform since we plan on working on a number of different titles using our technology platform. At present we do not have any finalised plans for how and if these will be implemented in future releases."
Cryptic plans to release Champions Online as a standard subscription MMO when it makes its North American and European debut on PC on July 14th. And chief creative officer Jack Emmert has previously made his dislike of microtransactions a matter of public record, telling a GDC panel last year that "they make me want to die".
But it now seems that the developer is open to supplementing subscriptions with revenue from item sales - as Sony Online Entertainment has done with EverQuest - or perhaps employing them in less subscription-friendly markets like Asia.
Incidentally, we very much enjoyed our brief run around the first few levels of the game, and will bring you a comprehensive beta report on Champions Online in the coming weeks. |

So Pay-To-Play AND Cash Shops. Guess I won't be bothered with this game then unless the cash shop items are limited to aesthetic features only or unless they end up not using a Cash Shop. :/ |
I don't think they will do both.
If they do, I am out. Sub is bad enough.
Plus, I wouldn't want such an idea to be successful and set a standard so i wouldn't support the game regardless of how good it is.

Well... if anyone has one spare, and is in a really good mood.. i'd appreciate it:D

It is the case. Dunno why that is such a surprise. You had to play the good side until the Villains Expansion came out for City Of Heroes. You can't seriously expect them to do both sides at one time.

I would take one side over two sides at launch any time.
If they made the villain side available from start, that would mean they have to make twice as much content than they would need for just one side. SOE is making this mistake with DCO. Make one side excellent instead of two sides mediocre.

I agree. But, they are testing the nemesis system now (where you design your arch nemesis for your hero and then actually try to stop him in game from doing stuff). |
Yeah it's a great idea, will be interesting to see how extensive effect the nemesis will have on the gameplay. The character creation tool seems very robust as well, so it's a real shame villains won't be available right away - could've pulled off some great designs with it.
I know nothing about City of Heroes, when the villains came available in the expansion were they integrated to the pre-existing CoH world?

It would make no sense to allow them to exist in the same gamespace as the heroes, since it would mean 24/7 PVP everywhere, gankers paradise. Paragon City (where heroes could play) was just not designed for that. There would have been no ways to prevent villains to go straight to Atlas Park and slaughter low level heroes and vice versa. It would have required major revamping and rebuilding of entire zones and even that would have been unsuccessful because of the total movement freedom. You can't just spam air partols over Atlas jsut to prevent Villains to fly in for some noob-hunt.
I don't know how they will do this in CO but if they want to make heores and villains exist in the same space, I'm sure they can pull it off since now they have experience with both sides and can design things keeping it in mind.

The beta doesn't start until the 17th anyways. If you get a key right now it's only so you can pre-load the client to then unlock on the 17th.
