modern day combat has the advantage of radar, heat seeking missiles etc. so that makes dog fighting a little bit easier but too easy at times (depends on the game)
I suppose I prefer the WWII area, I like the planes, the dogfights are decently hard (again, depends on the game but generally speaking)
Haven't given WWI games much thought till now but looking at those youtube vids looks pretty awesome.
One point I have with WWI flight sims is the speed. Given, planes just weren't that fast back then but sometimes it's just annoying.
But yes, looks smooth, might try it out but I'll get pissed off pretty fast because I have no working joystick around Very Happy

I tried BlackShark, and made me feel sick. Not misunderstand me, its a great sim but All those modern electronics require handle with more controls and a more charged interface. Im not against more complexity but sometimes i want more straightforward action in a simulator.

Looking forward to this...
...but Over Flanders Fields: Between Heaven & Hell is superb!!! - especially for it's incredible attention to historical detail and probably the best offline dynamic campaign of any prop sim around (not great for multiplayer, though).

This really looks interesting. OK, now I got the jones on for a great combat sim. Anyone have a suggestion? I am a graphics whore, though. The whole propeller style plane sounds fun. I know I won't get the physics that RoF 1917 offers but I know you guys will have all kinds of ideas for me.

Moosenoodles, sounds like you and your Dad have an awesome relationship. I think that's kewl as hell. I hope my 4 kids still play with me in 30 years when I'm 70!

Yes hes a big kid still, which i believe is the way to be, your only old when u stop playing as far as im concerned.. My 5 year old already plays lan UT2k4 with me and into mmo's etc so I am pretty sure hes a cut of the same stuff as me lol..

Regarding flight combat sim with props, best out there with no doubt right now is Il2..

Otherwise latest release on dvd is IL2-1946, would need to update it to 4.08m.

http://www.gamershell.com/download_17669.shtml

Also I run a fantastic mod collection with a mod switcher to allow u to play 4.08m with mods/6dof/standard or 4.09m (beta) mods/6dof/standard.The mod installs 4.09 beta so all you have to do is install IL2 1946 with 4.08m patch, then the mod if u wish and your done. Run game from the switcher and choose ur flavour and go..

The mod info is at this link (will need to register but worth it for the mod which stands at 1gb) and does one hell of a job at adding better sounds/planes/and flyable planes that were not in original.. etc etc..

http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/login.php?redirect=viewtopic.php&t=11860&sid=772fdae342f3fe7548f9af120919354c

And anyone that plays IL2 for most part online would use the hyperlobby client for finding games.. (be warned the players are pretty much hardcore with the realism attitude lol, and been playing for years and are very good)

(grab the local version)

cheers.

...formerly an avid IL-2 1946 player,OFF: BHH has pushed it aside to a large degree - most immersive single player truly dynamic campaign I've ever seen. Have a look at its feature list see the degree of WWI love that went into this project. It's just outstanding.

Yup, CFS3 is a big piece of poo, imho, but BHAH turns CFS3 on its head. It really really is an outstanding single player sim (I'd even go so far as to say perhaps the best ever... Shocked ) with just a fantastic degree of developer support - this coming from a CFS3 hater. One must get past that CFS3 prejudice to truly enjoy a real gem of a sim. Don't just take it from me, go have a look at their forum and see the replies from many CFS3 haters that gave it a go and are now converts. You'll see many an old RB3D'er there as well that have discovered it too. But yes, too bad it requires CFS3 and is not a stand alone...and unfortunately, that strikes fear in many...but it is an unfounded fear and is well worth checking out - the developers have really outdone themselves, it's truly first class all the way! These guys deserve every bit of financial support in their endeavor as well in what amounts to a very small and niche market.

So far I have been unable to play with a cracked CFS3.... Anybody else have any luck? I am looking for a clone or a mini-image right now to see if that helps at all. Hopefully RoF will be out in the next few days. i think I am actually going to "gasp" buy this one. Smile

Yes all i want to do is get an idea how its flight model and feel is for me to make a purchase or not. Online is what I want it for and if its not flyable online with a scene release then I guess I will have to keep reading about it, youtube vids, etc to see if it really is worthy a buy just for that.

I have feelings that there is no scene release for that game, i think there is so good onlinecheck(a'la DCS), there is Over The Flanders Field Phase 3 too, no scene release?

I buy only one WW1 Sim, Phase 3 or ROF
