i'm looking for good tip's and the do's and dont's of driving, i would prefer if you could seperate bad-habit's from good advice, i'm a UK resident, so preferably UK/EU driver's, but American advice is welcome, as driving as a whole is the same concept.
Thank you for your time and help in advance.

americans cant drive..they are worlds most pathetic drivers
hold wheel with 2 hands somewhat close to the top..it scares me when people drive with one hand and control the wheel at the bottom...you will just learn as you drive..
in US there is no practicing on the parking lot or whatever, you just go and drive in the open..and DO NOT TRY TO FOLLOW what others drivers are doing, if they doing some illegal dont try to do it as well..mind your own business...that is how i failed my first road test...was driving infront of the car and did not realized that he was driving in the middle of the road on the straight line on 2 way street

I drive with one hand but at the top of the steering wheel. Whats the point in constantly have two hands on the wheel?

i never drive with 2 hands on my wheel.... i gotta shift too much.
Driving is easy, driving on busy streets is more complicated.
NO matter what, whenever you do a maneuvre, alwats check mirrors , always slow down or stop depending on situation and look left AND right, even if you think no one is supposed to come from the other direction ( almost killed a guy that way even though i was in the right ).
Never ever keep your eyes off the road in front of you, dont look at your radio for more than a single split second, never ever look at the houses or hot chicks to the left of you.... keep your distance from cars in front of you, driving in his ass you will arrive not a second earlier at your destination.
Adapt to what i wrote, cause it sucks learning those things through an accident.

The best thing i learnt while learning to drive was the "what if" thing. For example, If the cyclist pulls out in front of me, what will i do. Its just about planning ahead and trying to see what could possibly happen.

Be careful and look out for other drivers. Doesn't matter if you're at fault or not, an accident still sucks either way.

Practice practice practice. Don't speed. It's the first step down a long slippery slope that leads you to doing stupid things.
Quote: | americans cant drive..they are worlds most pathetic drivers |
This. When you have 15 1/2 year olds driving around in your country, you know you're going to have a problem. Especially when said kids start exploring alcohol at that age.
In the US we have ~40,000 fatalities a year, half of which are under the age of 18. Fuck the war on terror, we should have a war on cars.

Optimally you'd first learn the basics of controlling the car in some secluded location and with plenty of space. Then when you have at least some degree of confidence, you can start driving in the sideroads / other places with low amount of traffic. Knowing the traffic rules well will really help in those initial stages, since when you know them by heart you won't have to stop to second guess yourself - you can concentrate completely on the driving.
And there's absolutely no shame in driving at a lower speed than the max. speed limit allows - confidence is good, but you have to acknowledge your limitations and level of skill as well.

I've been studying very hard on practice theory test's, and now, since i have been studying i have found myself paying very close attention to sign's and road mark's, like inverted triangle's, colour's of sign's, shape of the sign, looking when people are turning, when they use there indicator, watching as they approach a junction/section to turn, if they have there brake's on constantly at the junction or section, also noticed double white broken line's, thing's i have not seen before. have paid an ungodly amount of attention to road user's and sign's since i have started studying.

Also don't forget to gesture obscenely at those other drivers who may have wronged you in some way. I find the hand-job gesture to be most effective.

Remember blinkers.
If you're turning off a road onto a new one, blinkers first, then brake, then check mirrors and over your shoulder, then turn.
I hate you.

when ur driving at faster speeds (highway for example) signal other drivers about ur manuevers earlier than in city situations, so they'll have more time to react.

If by blinker's you mean indicator, then that is some good advice, to do it before braking, and also about signaling driver's earlier on motorway's earlier than inner-city manuever's.

Mirrors as have already been said is an important thing to remember but most important is to look over your shoulder in the blindspot of the mirrors. Loads of accident happen when drivers think their left side is clear after just checking the sideways mirror and then there's a vehicle in the blind spot and bam.
My best advice would be if you can find a big industrial parking space or something similar. Go there with your parents or friend or whoever is helping you learn and bring some trafficcones or similar obstacles. Then you can practice pretty much anything from evasion, braking, narrow passages and so on.
Edit: I meant of course go to the parking spot at night or at a weekend when it's clear of other vehicles.

This goes for both beginners and veterans: Never overestimate your abilities. That's the #1 reason why people mess up. It's very common among people that have had a license for 5+ years. They feel so comfy driving and believe they're driving gods. In reality they're sloppy drivers who omits some of the most important things a driver must think about. So never relax and think you're a better driver, because you're not (and even if you are you still need to be humble as a driver).

It should be noted that some people just suck at driving. Don't become 'that' fucking guy or lady (usually lady) that can't make a fucking decision.
I fucking hate it when I see some bitch in her Honda Element driving 5 MPH under the speed limit and taking 5 years just to figure out if it's safe to turn left now or not.
You should always have a clear picture in your head where your car is in relation to everything else on the road. Obviously, when turning, look around in your mirrors and turn your head first, BEFORE hitting the damn blinker. Then make the turn. Don't be the fuck that turns on the blinker and looks after starting to move over.
All of that said, most drivers are fine. It's just those indecisive motherfuckers that cause traffic to back up that cause a lot of problems.

when i was taking my driving lessons the instructor always nagged me to horn whenever i see hot chicks nearby
then he ordered me to sing something to him lol.
he was pretty gentle to me .. i heard that a friend didn't see the sign for ONE WAY street and the instrcutor told him to get down . it was raining. and go back to the sign like 30 m away and see it properly.

@Mchart, yes i am slightly worried about becoming that person that"take's too damn long to wait for traffic to be clear" to turn.
@Laurentiu499, i do have sight problem's, but i wear glasses, plus i'm seeing my Optician in 1hour 30minute's.
@Silverblue, i spent a good 20-30 minute's reading about the blind spot last night, apparently it's the rear quarter to the left and right of the vehicle.
@Frant, i completely understand what you mean about basically "comfy" driver's, they pay less attention because they think they have that type of "auto" awareness because of there extended driving time compared to most, sure it can make you feel more comfortablle driving, but doesn't make you an except to a crash or accident, regardless of who's fault.

Well now you have a lot of pointers on what to do and what not to do
I'd just like to add that the first drive you take after getting your license, the first time you're actually driving ALONE is one of the most scary and exillerating experiences ever. At least it was for me. And that feeling sticks with you for a month or so. So make sure you enjoy that and give all your friends rides and what not
Best of luck
