I figured this one also needs to be in the Oldies section
Info from Wikipedia:
Spoiler: | In Carmageddon, the player races a vehicle against a number of other computer controlled competitors in various settings, including city, mine and industrial areas. The player has a certain amount of time to complete each race, but more time may be gained by collecting bonuses, damaging the competitors' cars or by running over pedestrians.
Races are completed by either completing the course as one would a normal racing game, "wasting" (wrecking) all other race cars, or running over all pedestrians on the level before anyone else.
The game was notable for its realistic and ground-breaking physics and for its in-game movie making features. It was also one of the earliest examples of sandbox 3D driving games, and may have influenced other later games including Driver and the Grand Theft Auto series.
The game featured a music score version of Fear Factory's album Demanufacture, with the song 'Zero Signal' being used in the opening theme. |
There's also a release floating around from some guy who made a batch with DOsbox,
Carmageddon.Max-Pak.DOSBox.Edition.v1.0.WinALL-MasterFaster.
U need a fast PC for this tho, always had trouble with this one,
especially with 3DFX emulators like dgVooDoo.
Do you guys still play this one?

I loved Carmageddon!
Unfortunately I doubt there'll ever be a Camageddon 4, Sci was part of Eidos, and now Square-Enix have bought them.... I just can't imagine Carmageddon 4 being released with a Square-Enix logo on it. Imagine if they had a final fantasy crossover. Running over chocobos and such. Heh...

Yeah but one is more nostalgic, I liked the splatter effects better
Tho flying limbs are also cool.
I wonder how Carmageddon 2 runs on Vista, anyone tried?
@twoism:
Nah they'll never make it, that's a shame.

sabin1981 wrote: | It's also worth checking out the older UK versions, just for lulz. The BBFC were a bunch of tight-asses and originally banned the game, then changed their minds, so they replaced the pedestrians to ZOMBIES instead
Apparently the decision was overturned later and there are patches to remove the zombies anyway, heh. |
Hehe yeah that was so stupid. I think with the original version, which was password protected, there were also zombies instead. Stupid green blood and ultra zombie sounds

Wasn't carma 2 the one where you had to do some stupid mission every second race? That sucked so hard. |
It was, and boy did some of those missions suck ass. Iirc there were no checkpoints or anything either, so you always had to start again from the beginning.
