Hey admins!

There is a system on a few other forums that works quite well, and can work here as well. Whenever someone posts in a thread where he is the last poster, and it is within, let's say, one day of his last post in the thread, the new post is concatenated to his last post. This takes care of double/triple/etc posting caused by latency issues, and also eases on posting multiple replies. What happens now, if you want to answer to a few people, you have to open a few reply tabs, copy the quotation, and answer in a new post. If my proposed system is in place, posting a second reply would just add it to the previous post, resulting in a similar post. I say withing one day, because sometimes it is necessary to bump old threads (like when there is a news post, or when asking for help and bumping the thread). I think this is a nice system, and don't think should be very difficult to implement.

Thanks in advance! Smile

No, the idea is not to make it harder for people to post, but as transparent as possible. Smile

if the double post is an update that adds to the thread I don't see why it should be disallowed
but if it's just spam that'll take space in the page then yeah

Thats a good point FireMaster. one way to get around that would be to copy your old text and then delete your post, Paste the old text and write the new.

This is why I propose that there is a time frame where posts that are in are concatenated, while if the new post is out, it is posted the usual way.

Yep, this method is common on IP.Board forums. Smile Also, I think it is harder to implement.

Why did you use the word concatenate, when 'merge' would have been more appropriate?

Because, technically, the operation "post1 + post2," which is what Rinze would essentially do, in computer science is concatenation and not merger. Smile

Do double posts actually occur, like in real life, or is this a purely theoretical discussion? I really don't see many of them.

The idea is not how to use it, but why use it, when you can have a much easier way of replying a few posts? Also, double posts occur from time to time, and not everyone seems to notice they can delete their multiple posts...

Or you double post and then someone posts after you, and you can't delete your double post. I voted yes. It's never a bad idea for forum to 'grow' in capabilities...

No. I checked the database, and double posts are more often intended than they are a mistake.
