Palm Pre is looking really, really sharp. I looked over the features and to me it's a lot more attractive than any Apple-stuff.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

The pre has an unusual design, but i kind of like the simpleness of it, and combined with the touchstone charger it really looks fantastic. The only problem is that there is no known launch date over here

Do not get the X1. It's the slowest most retarded device I've ever used.
I've gone through basically every phone, G1's, iPhone, X1, N95, etc.
Like most X1 owners you'll get rid of it within a month because of the horrible case that cracks after extended use as well as the painfully slow OS. I found the HTC Touch PRO with the same Touch Flo crap to be faster. Also updating to a custom ROM did help a bit but I personally think the phone does not deliver what so ever and is way over priced. Thank god I was able to sell it without taking a big a loss as I expected.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend anything at this point in time. As usual Mobile Phone technology is blazing fast and something new and shiny is released on a quarterly basis. With that in mind, I'd be interested in the Pre but there are a lot of phones coming out very soon. I wanna give it's UI/OS a whirl to see if it lives up to the hype. The G1 is a good iPhone alternative although I've found nothing to be as intuitive as the iPhone and with the G2 coming out shortly I dunno.
G1's are pretty cheap now and an overall solid phone if you can overcome the battery life. Expect to charge the phone 2 times a day given you use it as intended though. Standby time is decent but as soon as you enable any of it's feature it gets sucked dry fast. Another bothersome issue I had was build quality, the phone feels really cheap with squeaks and rattles and in some cases a flimsy slide out mechanism.
Just remember that if you're looking for a magical device that seamlessly integrates multiple electronics into one at an affordable price (GPS, Camera, Etc.) stop right there because no phone does it all as well as dedicated devices YET. I find paying $700 for that Sony garbage as outrageous IMO.
EDIT: ^ I sorta agree with Spyke above. Having used so many touch screens I'm kinda over it. Especially the non capacitive touch screens that are equipped on a lot of phones aimed at an international market. (People in asia prefer to use a stylus vs their finger)
I stopped using touch screen phones a while ago and switched to a Blackberry Curve 8900 and don't miss it at all.

I dunno about you but going from the iPhone's OS/interface back to Windows Mobile 6.1 or whatever is a huge step backward. Given how the touch screen functionality was basically tacked onto the HTC Touch Pro/Fuze, I see the Pro 2 being just as tedious to use.

My bad, didn't know going from a glorified toy OS locked to the ability of doing zero stuff, to an OS where you can do anything is a step backwards.

It sure is a stepbackward!
The "everything" you can do in WM is trying to improve the rubbish that it is.
And if you call it "toy OS locked", maybe you don´t have the skills to unlock it...
Cuz you sure can make, and change a lot of stuff in the iphone.
With the right apps and tools ofc.

I prefer to not use any tools at all, rather than find creative hacks every month.

I think you're a bit delusional here and over exaggerating the truth. Fact of the matter is from a user friendly/intuitive basis the iPhone excels which is one of the reasons why it's so successful. I absolutely hate Apple products but give credit where it's due.
Windows Mobile needs a total overhaul and preferably needs to be built from the ground up to accommodate touch screens. In it's current form (Even with the Beta 6.5 or whatever) it's not very fun to use. Same goes for Symbian based phones, jesus christ they need to make some changes.

I do give it credit, it's simple and pretty. It is popular precisely for these reasons. A friend of mine has an iPhone (not 3G), another has Ipod Touch (is that the one with the same OS?), so I have used it here and there. I still prefer my WM6.1 (now 6.5 beta) mobile (maybe it's the masochist in me ). I prefer to be able to switch roms as many times as I'd like, and possibly cook them myself, not using only what Apple decides I should use.

IMO iPhone is the best out there if you want good 3rd party apps. How easily it handles browsing the web is nice to. The iPhone is without a doubt the most powerful handheld on the market. It has a few key missing features that some users use like MMS - But we are getting that in a few months with the 3.0 update anyways. If you like to game on your handheld, the iPhone is the only way to go.

The iphone is a cool device, but here in the NL its T-Mobile locked, and somehow the iphone and the t-mobile network don't really go along. The 3G signal is missing 75% of the time where i live. So the iphone isn't really an option.
we could add something iphone like,
HTC Touch HD
+ Screen (800*480)
+ 3,5 MM audio jack (my phone is my ipod)
+ GPS, 5 Mp cam
- Winmo (?)
- Huge
- expensive

Both Touch Diamond 2 and Touch Pro 2 are better than the Touch HD.
