Funny because GPG said when the game was announced that it would be multiplayer only. Just Sins of a Solar Empire is more multiplayer based. Get a clue gamespot.

mpulse Version: 1.0.48
Demigod EXE version: 1.00.0093

After a long night of connection server moving around along with a new ingame connection client, we are happy to release the day 2 update.

Change log:

+ Connection dialog now allows the host to eject players trying to connect.

+ New NAT Connection Server now isolated so not affected by general server load resulting in much faster, better connectivity.

+ Eliminated check for update on launching the game

+ CVP calls asynchronous (a server hicup on our side is a lot less likely to cause users to be disconnected)

Notes:

This isn’t a silver bullet. This is basically what Demigod would have been like on day 0 (minus the eject button) if the connection server wasn’t getting pounded.

That said, we’ve noticed some issues that you should be aware of that we plan to iron out this week including:

1. Because connections happen much faster in custom games, you can occasionally end up with players in the lobby that aren’t truly connected to everyone. Their ping will be yellow (or 0). The host will need to eject one of those players and have them rejoin.

2. This update does nothing for users who are behind a firewall or router that has ports locked. See http://forums.demigodthegame.com/345345 for tips in that area.

3. Obviously this is an update that we would normally want to run through a 2 or 3 limited beta since major surgery was done to the servers to reduce their load. But we felt strongly that we needed to get a release out that showed improvement for most people. We expect to release another update in the next few days once we can see the effect of the connection server in conditions we consider normal.

Gayspot is horrible for most reviews. This game is definately an 8.0, atleast. The funny thing is, pretty much the only bad thing they had to say about Demigod, is that the netcode is flawed, and does that really warrant a 3.5 decrease in score?

Gayspot as you put it really doesn't have anything to gain by giving out crappy unrealistic reviews. I really think they are just really bad at reviewing games. If it's not Mario, MGS, Killzone 2 or GoW it's going to get a lame review for the most part. Reviewing a game is tough because everyone is rushing to be first. So they rush through the game missing most of it. A tough part in the game comes up and slows down their chances of solving the game and they get pissed. A pissed gamer doesn't have fun (My Opinion, never reviewed a game for a publication). So there you go, a bad review. I look at reviews that come out way after the game did. But, by that time I have already tried the game so once again the review is pointless. It's a joke, don't listen to it. Download the demo or the full game and try it out for yourself. Demigod is a genre trend setter, unique work of art. I am loving it and don't give a shit about "GaySpot"! Just have fun and try it out for yourself. I did and I am reaping the rewards for doing so.

Yeah, but the bad things is that some ppl see websites like gamespot as a gaming reference, so they go "ughh 6.5? i´m not buying it then". I writes reviews for a local website, and i´m planning to write about demigod as well, but only when I feel I´ve reached a firm objective opinion.

Reviews like the one at gamespot are neither credible nor reliable, cause need to get a grasp of all the items, demigods, skill builds, gameplay, maps, etc, and you can´t do that in such a short period of time. Imagine reviewing an mmorpg in two days, hilarious. This is not exactly the case, but still...

They should have waited at least a couples days since stardock stated that they were forced to open the servers due to the gamestop incident. And now that the update fixing online issues is out, they can´t re-post the review. Nothing to add to "no sp campaign" as a con. I do agree with the lack of content, more demigods would have been great, but i´m sure stardock and gpg will add more demigods and maps as well.

Anyway... my impulse account is pey27, feel free to add me.

Thanks, now if only you could get a job at GaySpot! LOL! That's the way it's suppose to be done! You play everything and understand everything and remain objective. There are a lot nice extras in Demigod. I feel things they didn't have to add at all but they did and went the extra mile for the gamer. Extra content will probably happen through purchasing but who knows, I still feel the game warrants a 9 out of 10 in my book. And I am not taking about Originality alone, but the whole package. I am not playing online but if I do I will add you for sure. I am a rpg/rts turtle gamer that would be pwned by everyone online! LOL! Smile

People often forget that reviews are almost entirely subjective. Its not some damn oracle spewing out an objective truth. And let me just add that grading a game in 0.1 decimals, is both ridiculous and incredibly pretentious on part of the reviewer.

Except it looks like a 2009 game, not from 2000 like w3 is, plus it has its own features and stuff. I do agree that 8 demigods is disencouraging, but take into account that some ppl enjoy playing 3vs3 matches, and it has 8 arenas whereas dota provides only 1.

Kokatu.com wrote:
Poor Demigod had a rocky launch. Mainly because there were too many people trying to play the game. And why were there too many people? Because there were five pirates for every paying customer.

In a post on the game's forums, Stardock's Brad Wardell has revealed that the game's servers have been flooded with users trying to play the game. More users than they would have anticipated going by sales, as Wardell says internal data shows that while the game has been purchased by 18,000 people, there have been around 120,000 people trying to play the game over the past week.

So, yes, mostly pirated copies. Come on PC gamers. You wonder why companies decide to saddle you with crap like SecuROM, regardless of how ineffective and unpopular it is? It's because of statistics like that.

I doubt that, check wbb forums, 100.000 copies is way too low i´m afraid. Adding lan mode was a bad call, everyone is now playing over hamachi and garena.

They could easily fix that by adding 30ms ping kick limit.

Not depressing. Many game sales happen after release day, especially for multiplayer games. I bought a lot of multiplayer games in my lifetime, only 1 of them was before release date, the rest I bought weeks, months or even a year after release day.

"2009 graphics" do NOT matter when it comes to rating a game. Maybe in your (shallow?) world, but not in the one of anyone seriously trying to rate a game.

Compared to Dota (and the other dota-like, A(eon)O(f)S(trife), L(and)O(f)L(egends) etc etc, Demigod is shallow and very limited.

A good example of "copying" a warcraft/starcraft "mod" was that Tower Defense game a couple months ago ... and they sell it for 20 bucks ... not 40-50 ...

Maybe I´m a bit shallow when it comes to gfx, but that doesnt´s mean i´m a graphics whore, i do enjoy demigod´s gameplay as well, and 40 bucks is ok with me. I just hope the netcode works properly in the upcoming weeks.

I´m afraid it´s not that simple modeling new demigods could take more than a couple weeks, the polygon count on dota heroes must have like... hmmmmm... i dont know 500 polygons? Demigods must surpass 4k or 5k - don´t really know much about design.

Well... in that case i´ll try to sumarize.

You play with one demigod, either assassins (dmg dealer) or generalss (supportive/minions control + some dmg). Creeps constantly spawn in waves out of portals, but u cant control them, they just go and attack anything that stands in their way.
Demigods gain xp and gold by killing creeps, other demigods, towers and capturing flags, some of them grant gold and some others xp, a sort of constant resource control points.
Demigods have a skill stree with 4 active skills, 4 passive skills and stats - in case u want to upgrade base attributes instead of skills.

You can buy items at the base -or some captured points- and upgrade your citadel, as well as other upgrades such as: gain more xp, reduce death penalty, armor for your structures, buy additional creeps, etc. Citadel upgrades are unlocked through a war rank system and purchased using gold.

You can carry up to 5 pieces of armor (stackable) and 4 items (either consumable such as potions or scrolls) and artifacts (items to reduce speed, deal dmg, etc). One of these four items can be replaced with a favor item, which are gained by gaining favor points.

There are 4 game modes which basically goes as follows: destroy their base; destroy their fortress (sort of bunkers sorrounding the base); kill other demigods; capture flags.

If you manage to play 5vs5 with no lag issues, it can be extremely rewarding. But i don´t know if it´s your type of game. To sum up, imagine Diablo 5 VS 5 (2v2, 3v3, etc), with a base and creeps constantly fighting by your side. That´s pretty much it.
