After I've installed Steam - how can I select where the games are to be installed? Will they automatically end up in the same directory as steam? (Ive got it installed on C: atm but dont want the games to be on that one) shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

You can't mate, Steam installs all programs/data into Steam\SteamApps and there's no way to change it. Best solution? Uninstall Steam and reinstall it on a HDD that has enough space. I had to do the same, now my Steam install is on my Games HDD

Cheers for the incredible fast reply Ive only just reinstalled Steam so its no real problem to install it again shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

you don't have to delete the games!
i hope i was quick enough Smile

(edit: over an hour... i guess i wasn't)
just move the entire installation to the new drive, delete the registry file and start steam and it should work fine
did for me

The answer: Hard links. Steam thinks the folder of apps is where it is supposed to be, whereas it actually sits in a different location completely. Smile

Use this tool.

I used to use a similar tool a long time ago (XP days), when I used to have all the Source games installed at once. Didn't have a huge disk(s) back then, so it was great. Yeah, NTFS junction points are cool. And they only need a one-time use of that commandline tool, then you're set. Got to be a little careful though, they aren't shortcuts, deleting means deleting
